My Grady 226 has dry wood termites

There are lots of do-it-yourself spot treatments for dry wood termites. Getting a boat fumigated is overkill. Here is one source: Dry Wood Termite Treatments The best way to get rid of them is to remove and replace the infested wood parts. I hope they didn't get into your transom or stringers.

    Father's Day at Pyramid Lake

I miss that lake a lot. Here's my personal best LCT caught on a trip back there:

Simrad GO size does it matter?

They have the 9" on sale now with the Total Scan transducer for $899.99, which is a screaming deal. They are giving the older Total Scan away since it has been replaced by the Active Image 3-in-1 unit. Given the West Marine return policy you really can't beat that. Go 9 Go with the 9". I...

    02 yamaha f225txra charging issue

Yamahas draw over 10 amps just running at idle, which is more than the alternator can put out at low rpm. So the engine is drawing on the battery until you rev up to 1600 rpm or so. That's why you are seeing the voltage drop at idle. If your batteries are weak, the voltage drop at idle will be...

    Seafarer 226

I did a similar thing with a cooler seat on my old 204C. It makes for a nice ride since the position is well behind the splash point where the waves hit the hull and aft of the center point so movement is lessened. The seat takes up less fishing space than you might think.

    Looking for recommendations on supplies

I start out with 300 ft of rode and 10 ft of chain fishing the Gulf of Mexico. While it's true that more chain is better, it is a PITA to stow more chain in my little anchor locker. I use a ball to pull the anchor since I don't have an electric winch. I've used a 9 lb Danforth style anchor...

    Removing Deck Panel

Debond should work. It contains a couple of polar solvents. You need to let it soak of course. Once it softens up you should be able to cut the sealant with a razor knife. If the stuff is thick, soak with debond again after cutting the surface with the razor knife.

Work day - update and need help

If the engines have been sitting around for a while, it's possible that both water pumps are weak. On any new-to-you boat, you should replace at least the impellors so that you know where you are starting from for service. Change them every 2 years if you fish offshore and every year if you...

    Navionics and Lowrance HDS ?

It defaults to the built-in chart when you remove the chip. You need to select the correct overlay in order to display many of the Navionics features. You also need an active subscription these days in order to get all of the functions.

    Supper replacement

You can just replace the flap. It's just a single screw and they hold up for at least 5 years.

    Auto pilot on 228

I just don't like the location of the heading sensor on the step going down to the cabin floor. I keep boxes of tackle on the bunks and I needed to keep reminding people not to step on the sensor when they went in and out of the cabin. I guess that I could build another step over the sensor that...

    Auto pilot on 228

My heading sensor works great and was very stable banging through a 3 ft chop yesterday. My Simrad MDF sees it just fine. It's the heading sensor that isn't waterproof which concerns me, not the controller. I have mine located the same as yours and it was soaking wet when we got back. We do a...

    Auto pilot on 228

I'm getting buyer's remorse over my Furuno AP. I was sold a bill of goods about it at the Miami Boat Show where a salesman and an "engineer" told me that it didn't need a heading sensor if I only wanted to follow GPS tracks from my Simrad Evo3. While that may be true, it turns out that the...

    Corroded thru-hill fittings

Chromed over brass really doesn't belong in the marine environment. Once the chrome layer starts to pit there isn't much that you can do to restore them. Straight brass that you can clean up or stainless steel is the way to go. My 11-year-old stainless steel fittings get Flitz once a year and...

    Seafarer 226

These are the deck chairs I use. They are on sale right now. I don't get the bad reviews. They are pretty well made but can't handle 3 ft seas or be left out in the rain. Offshore Angler Folding Chair

    Thru Hull Seacock

Look at the bottom of your hull. You'll see the strainers and that's where the seacocks will be located.

    Seafarer 226

You can't sit in the seats in any kind of sea or chop. You would need suspension seats, but I don't think they could be adapted to a Grady. I use folding chairs near the stern if it isn't too rough. When it's bumpy and wet, a bean bag between the helm chairs is the best seat in the house.

    Simrad Autopilot

The AP24 dash unit gets its power from the Simnet drop cable. You need to find your Simnet backbone first and check the T-fitting. The dash unit should power up without the computer. Check the power connection to the backbone. Your computer is also connected to the backbone via another...

1986 yamaha 150 outboards lower gear lube and quantity

I'll second the recommendation for the Mercury High Performance (not their Premium) gear lube. I used that stuff in my old Honda BF90 and the original lower unit is still running fine after 21 years. That span includes a couple of leaky seals and few propeller shreddings. It's GL4 to protect...
