    2016 Yamaha 250 timing belt

A timing belt failure on an interference engine is catastrophic. That said how often do you hear of timing belt failures before 100k miles on poorly maintained cars? Almost never. To get 100k on a car you are looking at 7-10 years and 2k+ hours. The engine bay of a car is WAY hotter than a 4...

Newbie needs help please_FIRST boat- new vs. used GW?

When I looked for our boat I came across a number of scammers on craigslist, but there were plenty of legit boats there too. In my experience Boat trader was safe, but often boats posted there were tough to sell because of condition or the owner was asking too much. Seems like most of the best...

    Cracked Transom Recovery

Interesting technique to right the boat. I've not seen that before. Impressively effective. That is at least a 97 or older hull. Likely pre green board days and no aluminum bracing. I scratch my head wondering who at Grady decided the expense of aluminum bracing in the transom was money worth...

    Running out of fuel

Your guess might be right, but I also wonder if you picked up some trash that is hindering fuel flow. Our 1st year with this boat I had both engines die within 10 minutes. I could get them running by filling the vst from the primer bulbs, but the engines couldn't draw fuel alone. The previous...

    NE Boat Show

It's not just you. There are very few "classic" anything that I would want to own. Generally technology has improved cars significantly to the point that I don't look backwards too often. I have been a bit disappointed by a lack Ford truck reliability and substantial complexity, but the...

    NE Boat Show

I'm in the same, uh - boat. Our islander is like new cosmetically. The engines weren't bad by any means, but were never worth more than they were in fall when I sold them. Once new engines get here (if ever) we will have a like new boat, with new engines, trailer, and electronics for under $75k...

Transom Rebuild - follow my journey

The 263 should have it. Look in the bilge for the aluminum brackets. Our 99 248 voyager had similar aluminum bracing.

Transom Rebuild - follow my journey

:p Looks like we were both wrong! Yeah, I'd want the 300's too!

    2001 repower

Things to consider: New f200 will require 89 octane. New f200 will be around 100 lbs lighter. If you have a hardtop and run heavy, I'd consider a mechanical v6 from Yamaha or Merc. They are much cheaper than all electronic engines. If a Bimini and run light, the f200 will get it done.

Transom Rebuild - follow my journey

The difference in the 250's to the 300's might be 3 to 4 mph at best on the top end. I would think with the 250's you should be topping out around 50 mph. Around these parts being able to cruise at 30 doesn't happen often enough to worry about WOT numbers. The overall power curve of the 250...

Sorry for the oddly displayed post. Not sure if it is my phone or the site doing weird things.

1996 Grady Islander Stringer rot repair

Unfortunately 100% of what you said also applies to the 2003-2005's. I tolerate it because I love trailering to change the scenery. No regrets.

1996 Grady Islander Stringer rot repair

The good news is that your transom should be greenboard. The bad news is your stringers might not be. Word is 97 was a transition year to all greenboard transoms. It is not clear if all boats got greenboard for stringers. If your boat was a 98, you'd be in the clear. Nice work Pete. I can't...

NY Boat Show, hiding in the crowds

Was at the local show a few weeks ago. Hate to say it, but Pursuit and Edgewater showed better than GW. Seems like GW has been too busy building boats to catch up with new manufacturing trends that provide better perceived quality in the form of fit and finish. GW's looked a little sloppy...

Steering Sensors - Part needed for F350s

Have you tried a wanted post on the The Hull Truth classifieds? Be aware of scammers. Back in the day Yamaha outboards we're engineered with redundancy or ways to bypass failed parts to limp a boat home. Apparently that isn't a priority anymore. Must be too expensive - yes, that last part is...

    275 Freedom Gel Coat Cracks

I get that this is pisses you off. Everyone on this forum would feel similar. It can be a huge pain-in- the- ass to schedule and take a boat in for repairs. However, if this is the only issue, it isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Keep taking it back till it's right and enjoy your...
