Vehicle and trailer to tow Freedom 225

I have a 228G and she is 6600 lbs including aluminum ACE trailer, I tow with a Landcruiser 4.5 TTD (twin turbo diesel) , you only have the 5.7 petrol in USA. Not as frugal as the X5 without towing but still gets around the 24 MPG, that goes down to 12-14 with the trailer behind but tows it very...

When will you splash your boat?

I feel sorry for you guys up in the north, you only use your boats for 6 months per year, what a waste !! I use mine all year around, I fish at least every 2 weeks but the air temp never drops bellow 40F even in the middle of the night, on winter days typical max day temp is 60F. The only...

Anyone use those slick guides on their bunk trailers

I use these: http://www.surfixinc.com/surfix_trailer_bunkslides.html They come predrilled with stainless steel screws ready to screw on your bunks. I used them on my last boat so when I got the GW I bought them again. Great product and they will not damage your gelcoat at all. I always...

    Question on the SeaV2 Hull

Freedom 225 is the same hull as the 228G with the same bracket. I have a 228G in Sydney Australia, we get a lot heavier seas here than you guys in the east coast USA. I find she handles the chop and swell , sometimes 10 foot plus and 20 knots + very well for its size , it's not comfortable in...

    Bottom Paint Removal?

3M have a product called hull-strip; http://www.scomar.com.au/Products/Consu ... Strip.aspx I have used this product to strip bottom paint on a 22 footer, worked well , no damage on the gelcoat at all, a lot of work and not cheap either. When I finished any leftover bottom paint I used a hot...

    livewell spring on 94 sailfish?

I don't have a sailfish, I have a seafarer 228G , mine had a gas strut that was stuffed when I bought her. I bought a S/S gas strut form this place: http://stores.ebay.com/strut-your-stuff-here He has any strut size you want in S/S and cheap, all you have to do is measure yours and get one the...

    adding a wash down

Well not quite the same as this is all built in the pump and for about the same money as a single port pump. Click on this , the outlet seen on this pump is used for your livewell, low pressure plenty volume low current, the plug you see on the bottom side you unscrew and you screw the hose to...

    adding a wash down

Bravo!!!! You got it but there is no T off as such it is all built in to the pump that screws in the through hull, next time you are in a boat shop have a good look at one and them you will understand better how they work, very clever idea they are and GW haven't cought up with this yet.

    adding a wash down

I'm glad someone understands how it is done guys, I would put up pictures for everyone to see but I can't as it is under the livewell and I don't want to remove it to take pictures. ONE hole on the bottom of the boat thats all you need, ONE through hull fitting again thas all you need, srew the...

    Paint hardtop

Why do you want to paint it? Is the gelcoat worn out or faded? If faded you can buff it like new again. If worn out , take the hardtop off and take it to a panel shop, let then spray it with two pack paint , stays polished longer than gelcoat, they will be able to colour match .

    adding a wash down

I don't know why Grady don't use this set up, saves having two through hulls, it will also create problems with your transduccer. You have two one on each side so you don't have clean water for the tranny to work . I'm lucky my boat only had the one on the starboard side and I put my tranny on...

Fuel Question about blending 89 and 91 octane gas.

Frank , You can use 87, not ideal and don't overload the engine when you do have 87 in the tank . When you can get higher octane fill with 93 if possible that way you achieve the required 91. You can get octane boosters but they are not ideal either. When you have the lower octane gas in your...

    Outboard Motor Bracket Gel Coat

As above the bracket is made from marine alloy and she is painted from factory ( 2 pack paint ) paint lasts for many years if looked after, yours is 23 yo, anything that lasts 23 yers in the sea has to be good. You can patch up like you said , sand it down to metal , prime with aluminum primer...

    adding a wash down

Only the bilge pump is fitted to the seacock , bilge pumps can be under water, here in Australia people use a bilge pumps mounted on the bottom of the transon to pump water to their fishwells , they use a 1/2" pipe that ends up under the transon for the water to feed the livewell when the boat...

    adding a wash down

I agree with seasick you need another pump. The livewell pump is a normal bilge pump , high volume (1100 g ph) but low pressure and draws very little current (3.3 amp) . A typical deckwash pump is 4-7 g per minute (240-420 GPH) , so much less volume but at 40-70 psi and draws much more current...

    Forward Bilge in 228G Seafarer

The water could come from various places , its probably been there for a long time , the pump will not pick all the water up. When under way all the water shoud go aft and the rear pump should pump most of it out. Water could come in from the through hulls, even from the bilge pump outlet if you...

    Forward Bilge in 228G Seafarer

The FWD bilge connects with the rear bilge all under the fuel tank. Every time I use my boat I hose the anchor well so fresh water runs all the way to the rear bilge. After she is rinsed I put the plug in so the water pools the rear bilge pump will then go on I block that so the water pools to...
