    Trailer bearings question

I tow long distances on undulating roads up and down the coast, a lot of it on secondary twisty roads, never have any problems with bearings. As stated above do not over tighten the castle nut, sure do it tight with a spanner so the bearing sits then back off and do it finger tight. Wobble the...

Not worth the effort, like others stated you will need to swap the helm.

    Fuel Polishing-Worth it?

It's a good idea to clean it but not easy to remove the tank. I tried to lift mine out ( same size as yours , same boat) , it wouldn't fit . I ended up taking the fuel sender out and gained excess from there to clean it.

1987 228 Seafarer - which motor would you choose?

I have a 228 with a 250 optimax on the bracket and she goes great after several hundred hours, very reliable engine, I wouldn't swap it with anything else. I run up to 50 miles offshore chasing beakies in the pacific ( Sydney down under) so reliability is a must for me. The original engine was...

    Trailer Brake Maintence

I started using Kodiak full S/S brake kits about 10 years ago and never looked back. The last trailer I had for 5 years in that time I only changed brake pads, the rotors were well warn when I sold it though. I never have any problems with bearings, I use B/Buddies and check them once per year...

Brand New Fuel tank, but smell fuel in cabin

I think I have to agree with Pez Vela, the first thing to check is the fuel sender gasket. If you can't find what it is pump some compressed air, low pressure ( only need 5 psi) via a regulator and you will find for sure . The reason the cabin smells is because it's closed and all the vapor...

Need advice for towing from Virginia to San Diego

Thats a fair trip, I would say at least 2500-3000 miles, Whilst I don't have much experience driving in snow covered roads I have driven extensively in USA. Your roads are good so I can't see any problems unless you get snowed in. I have a lot of experience towing boats here in AU, sometimes I...

    Fuel Level Question...

No savings by using ethanol fuel because you will use more fuel as it has less energy per gallon than normal non ethanol.

    Replacing Brakes on My Trailer

To get the bolts off just break them and use new S/S bolts . It won't take much to break them, grab them with two spanners and go for it , if the heads are to rusty to grab with a spanner use a torch or grind them off. I set up all trailers here with Kodiak all S/S brakes, if people don't want...

    Fuel Level Question...

magicalbill, I guess thats the marina price you are talking about, I was in Florida a few weeks ago and I filled my car there, I paid $3.279 for E10, I don't know what the marina price is for none ethanol fuel. Here in Australia I have to use premium now 95 ron as I can't buy none Ethanol...

    Fuel Level Question...

I would love to pay what you guys are paying for fuel!! At around the $3.50 mark per Gal It's a lot less than what we pay, try $1.50 per lt ( $5.70 gal), over $450 to fill the tank!!

    Fuel Level Question...

I'm not in Florida (was there last week) but similar weather here in Sydney AU. I only ever use none ethanol fuel as well ( I wouldn't touch E10), I have a 228G one tank only, I fill up every second time I take her out, use about 150 ltrs each time ( ok about 40 gals), sometimes it could stay...

    Need Advice on Trailer Brakes.

I only use Kodiak S/S brakes ( I believe D-max are just as good but I don't have first hand experience), I have installed them in many trailers here in AU, some of them over 7 years old now, Never had any problems with them other than worn pads and worn rotors. S/S rotors are foster than steel...

    bunk glides

I have these http://www.surfixinc.com/surfix_trailer_bunkslides.html on my trailer, the boat slides off almost like rollers, I can't undo the chain before the trailer is in the water, if I do she will end up on the ramp. The slides are soft so they will wear out in time, you have to make sure...

    whats it worth???

Look elsewhere, I wouldn't touch this boat. I'm sure you will find plenty 265's for sale that haven't been under. I wouldn't buy it at any price to keep.

    Fuel line may be bad

Looks like ethanol at work, nasty stuff, I never use that crap in any boat or car for that matter.

    Seafarer 228G

Not the guy I was thinking , your boat went to Melbourne. A guy I know just bought a 208 she is about to be shipped to Sydney. His is a 2003 with 200 HPDI as well and he had a new trailer built . I don't know if you guys realise, the maximum trailer width here is 2.5 mtrs or 98 1/4" in your...

    Seafarer 228G

Wouldn't consider a boat with bottom paint. How long ago did he sell the 208? What year ? What engine? I think I may know where she is going.
