    Trailer bearings question

family; I did respond specifically to your lube regimen. I just stopped years later when I heard that trailers had watertight seals. Again; during that period, I had little if any, bearing trouble, I just had grease all over the backside of the wheels from it coming out the other end. It...

    Trailer bearings question

family affair has an interesting point. Gotta trust those Lake Erie guys... I used to carry a grease gun in the 80's and hit the zerts(SP??) at the ramp before driving away. I always seemed to blow the seals out the backside from pumping too much in, but I had little to no bearing trouble...

    Trailer bearings question

Smoke; I have said this for more years than I can remember. If your trailer is anywhere near max cap with the Grady loaded on, you have the real potential to blow bearings/seals no matter what other precautions you take. My trailer guys replaced 1-2 bearings in the course of a year on my...

Love my Marlin, so 'Sell' me on getting a 330!

I keep looking for a window to jump in here and I don't find one. I can't improve on any points that have been made. I will say that if your ever contemplating a Bahama run, Gary M is a great source of pics & info. I have enjoyed his stories and photos over the years. Comfortably Numb..A Floyd...

    jip40..Question.

Thanks! One day I'd like to make that run; my better half wants to retire in a few years, giving us the needed time to poke around up there. Laid back is our type of boating; I was in rock-n-roll for 31 years and I've had my fill of loud bars and noisy people. When I stopped getting paid to...

    jip40..Question.

I didn't want to post this on the corrosion thread. I read about your run back from the Keys up the West Coast of Fla. I agree on the wind down there. Family goes down in Jan and I run the boat down from Ft Myers area. I wait for an East wind or light SE to NE (10kts or less) and run close...

    F-350s on a 330 Express

I've heard of the flywheel probs. Yamaha techs can expound on that. I have not ridden or know of a 330 w/300's. I have ridden on 330's with both 250's and 350's and the difference is significant. I've always thought that the 250's were not enough power. The 350's on the boat I rode on will run...

    Chesepeake

Second hand news here, but there is a guy with one on a lift in my basin. He has mentioned in casual conversation that he enjoys the boat. Takes it from Ft Myers to the Keys every spring.Plans on keeping it, I think.

    Boat Cover

First off; It depends on how much you want to protect your boat from the sun/elements, etc. Dealing with a cover is extra work, but it goes a long way in preserving the look and life of your boat. To me, it's worth the effort. If my Grady sits for more than a week, the cover goes on. As far as...

On the fence- buying a 180, boat show price ends today

I need to tune in on your life more often. I haven't been updated since the sale of your 226. OK.. Pass. For these reasons. 1.)If you are unsure about it, don't spend 40K. 2.) I would have no boat w/out tabs. Especially with your family/kids aboard, they are important tools for load...

    Length of 232 Gulfstream

It's amazing how much longer than 23 feet they are. My 232 is almost 33 feet on the trailer from the ball hitch aft to the props. I have the OB bracket & pulpit. Biggest & widest 23 footer ever... Oh yeah and the heaviest... 10,100 lbs with trailer, full fuel, ice & gear.

    Engine Flush

I flush my Yamahas after every use. I have heard commercial guys (construction operators, Tow Captains, etc.) say they never flush their OB's and they get thousands of hrs of use out of them. They use them on a regular basis, sometimes every day and therefore the salt doesn't have the down time...

Marlin docking help stern to with wind

Practicing is your best tool. It is hard to describe with the typed word how to counteract a sudden gust of wind broadside or outline split-second close-quarter maneuvers once your committed to the final approach. The revved-up engines was a tip I got from a Sea Tow Capt. Using the wheel...

Marlin docking help stern to with wind

It's always best to try to set it up so your backing against the wind so the wind can act as a brake. If that's not possible and mostly your forced to stern in with the wind.. You didn't say whether you are using the wheel or turning with your engines only. I suggest centering the engines JUST...

    Grady 232 vs. 228

Thanks for catching that Grouper; I thought the Seafarer was 8' 6"

    Grady 232 vs. 228

Agree with the others; Your truck will be close to or at the cap. Keep in mind the 232 has a 9' 3" beam, requiring a permit to tow legally. The permit you need will vary from state-to-state, making it somewhat of an aggravation compared to towing a 228 which comes in at 8" 6". Also keep in mind...

What's everybody doing on their Grady this weekend?

Firenailer; Read your post to sell your 208... If your enjoying the boat, why not take it inland when you guys move? The Adventure is easy to tow and can fit in a backyard.

Sold my 232 what is the Marlin Clearance on Trailer

One more thing; If your garage door is a tad too low, you can either buy or custom-make a close-to-the-ground lower drawbar for your hitch ball. Change to it from your normal hitch bar just before you back in. Dropping the nose close to the ground while backing the last few feet into your...

Sold my 232 what is the Marlin Clearance on Trailer

I'm not sure either, but I'm pretty sure that the max legal towing height w/out special permits is 13' 6" If your garage door is 14' it should fit. If not, you've got to get permits and travel specific routes that do not have low bridges, plus being aware of low tree branches, roofs above...
