    Permits and insurance

Hey WaterRotty; I have a 232 Gulfstream..Twin 200's. You will love the boat. It handles reasonable seas well and you can horse it around a dock plus launch/load it by yourself. The beam is 9' 3". You do need an overwide permit, and I believe they vary from state to state. Some states require...

    Surge Suppression.

The advantages of living in Fla are many.. One disadvantage is we may be the lightning capital of the world. I was gone for a week in May and when I came back, my battery charger was showing a constant red on Bank #1. It was green, (fully charged) when I left. I was told there was a line of...

How many of youz guyz use your boat mainly in freshwater?

Re: How many of youz guyz use your boat mainly in freshwater Before 2012, Lake Michigan/summer; Keys (Marathon) 1st 3 weeks of Jan. Now retired, Fla full-time, so saltwater full-time. More washing..More flushing, but we can finally swim & anchor without shivering.

Real Life LOA on a Canyon 306

Yes, all's well here. Hope it goes smoothly with the 306. Want to do the Tortugas at some point also, but, as you know, with the 232 the conditions have to be right. Plus, once your there you have to get back...

Real Life LOA on a Canyon 306

Dennis; Greetings; Hope your well! Larry; Got rid of the Gulfstream? We were talking specs on a trailer for it awhile back as I recall.

    Bimini 306 Trailer

Not sure of the weight of a 306. (Marlin Hull, I think.) I'm guessing that gross weight w/trailer scales under 15k. Good idea. Overkill is smart 100% of the time. 1.)Rollers are best only when you are launching/loading at a particularly steep ramp where you have to sink the truck to submerge...

    Great Lakes Question

I re-read my last post..I don't want to be pushy at all. I believe in your idea and think the rewards will be big. If you try it and it's too uncomfortable and stressful, pull out and say you gave it a shot. Given the right precautions, common sense & time, it's doable. I'm excited for you..I...

    Great Lakes Question

How much time do you have to devote to the journey? There is no escaping the fact that you will be kept in port some of the time; watch the weather systems. It's worth the effort to do what you want to do..it's a great trip. A 30-footer will certainly increase your days to run. it will also...

1977 Grady White, our first boating season...

Superior wow! Looks just like the N. L. Mi shoreline with the sand color, etc. No wonder the family wasn't in above their knees. Does the water even get to 60 in the shallows?

What to do about stale fuel

If it was me, I'd run out as much of the old fuel as possible, weather/wind permitting before your winter lay-up. Refill to the top with fresh, non-ethanol fuel & the appropriate amount of stabil before you put it to bed. It shouldn't take long to empty it at 1.1 MPG.

    Great Lakes Question

wahoo; Your welcome, happy to chime in. Keep in mind we presented generalities instead of specifics. To get technical would have translated into a much longer post. Either family affair or I can give you more precise info on the area of the lakes we are familiar with. There are ramps in...

    Great Lakes Question

family affair is right.. The Great Lakes lie in kind of a climatological battlefield. During the time you can comfortably cruise, (June-Sept) they are affected by cold fronts that bring warm air up on Southerly winds ahead of them and the winds generally veer NW to NE behind them with a...

1977 Grady White, our first boating season...

Just curious; The pic with the boat nosed in toward the beach at anchor.. I would guess it to be Lake Michigan, Michigan side. I recognize the sand, water color and seagrass in the background. If not Lake Michigan, then Charlevoix. All the other ports on the West coast have brown water...

    New to me Grady

Your welcome, always enjoy your perspective on stuff. I used the 10K figure as an offshoot of my own experience. My 2007 Gulfstream with twin 200 4-strokes weighs in at 10,100 lbs including the trailer. The trailer was supplied to me with 2- 5000 lb axles and I broke a weld, went thru more...

    New to me Grady

Congrats on the Explorer. It's always fun getting a boat. I don't know about the advantages of bigger beams in your situation. I will comment on things I do know about after 40 years of trailering boats big & small. 1.) Listen to Parthery; He has a wealth of experience also. 2.) 7K is...

    Gulfstream outboard weight/HP limit

Mine is a 2007 and I have twin 200 4-stokes. It's slightly stern-heavy and the scuppers are about 1/2 submerged at rest. I guarantee you it doesn't matter. I am the original owner and have had it for 8 years now; no drainage problems and it runs great. As legend says, there are many with the...

    1996 Seafarer - 225 HP

Sure. As long as your buddies don't include a 250 lb guy wanting to come out on 1 slalom. Also, how heavy you load the boat and how many people you take along is a factor. 250 HP is optimum for that boat, but 225 will get the job done if you keep the boat fairly light and pull people mostly on...

    Clean Armrest

Woodie; I have a 2007 Gulfstream also. Same chairs, likely. As mentioned, cover them up. We have friends that made us cloth stretch-type covers that are machine washable. Cover them and forget it; I stopped trying to clean them.
