    get up on plane

No offense taken; We're all friends here and, as Seasick says, this is why this site is so valuable. I didn't know a seemingly simple topic of planing could be broken down and analyzed to this level. I certainly didn't realize all these different factors of heat buildup, gearcase load, etc. that...

    get up on plane

Fair point Mr. "D". I should've said I don't like planning quickly and my procedure has served me well. In reality, I have no real proof planning quickly is bad for your engines. I just don't like to do it, and my engines are fine. Not unlike everyone on the debate stage the other nite...

    get up on plane

I have 800+ hrs on my F200's and I put who-knows-how-many on my previous outboards. In all of that time, I have never gotten on plane as fast as possible, pinning the throttle or otherwise. My engines check out perfect in all respects and I throttle up gradually, not staying in a plowing...

    GW model 205 Gulfstream 1980

The Gulfstreams are known as a 232, although it may have been a 205 back in 1980. Grady has changed numbers on other boats so a 205 naming is possible. Don't know whether that helps you in your search or not.

1977 Grady White, our first boating season...

This is a great example of how, with mechanical and restoration skills, one can enjoy an old boat and the vibe/aura that comes with it for a somewhat reasonable investment. There is no way I would even attempt such a process as shown here, even if I had the skills and knowledge. I am not...

    226 Discontinued??

Indeed there are; Lots of research would be in order to determine the quality, fit/finish, etc. I'm holding onto my 232 Gulfstream. It is perfect for our needs except when we want to do long runs offshore; Then we need 10 kts or less for the comfort we want. I gravitated toward the 305 mostly...

    226 Discontinued??

Yikes..your right; no Express 305. That was 1st on my future wish list. Crap.. Legend; Almost all our new Grady club members have bought Freedoms. They are obviously the rage and have been for awhile. Seems to me it's a simple case of supply & demand. I wouldn't pay six figures for a boat with...

    get up on plane

I do exactly what you do with my 232 Gulfstream with twin 200 4-strokes. I can't believe that flooring it out of the hole time after time is ok. I have heard that the F200 i4 does not have the low end torque that their 6 cylinder counterparts possess. This would translate into longer planing...

Looking for information on some trips...

X2 what Blackbird says... I will add 2 things.. 1. Don't skimp on clearing Cape Romano as you depart Marco/Naples. I run offshore approx 10 miles to the Cape Romano Shoal Lite and then set a course for Daymark Green#13 off Vaca at Marathon. That distance is approx 80 Statute Miles. Blackbird...

    1991 overnighter repower

A Grady dealer or service dept. should be able to tell you if the bolt pattern is different or not.

    2001 282 Repower

Since no one else has responded yet, I'll say that the I-4 200's will lack some in planing power/torque compared to your HDPI's. I've read that people like them so far, dependability-wise & performance wise. That said, I would recommend the 6-cyl 200's. I have a pair on my 232 Gulfstream and...

The "Big Trip" - 900+ miles in our Marlin

Legend; Jumping in here, fischer can add to/change/correct this; The most popular and, almost the only, game in Key West is Galleons Marina. They are to stbd when you enter the main channel from Hawk Channel. there is a big turning basin in there and you parallel a long jetty that serves as a...

The "Big Trip" - 900+ miles in our Marlin

Hey, thanks for taking the time to really explain it. Much appreciated! Our goal is to snorkel, anchor, beachwalk. Sounds like a kayak is mandatory. Your report is great. it's like a vacation brochure and that water is amazing. Our trip is in the future, but we're putting the pieces together...

The "Big Trip" - 900+ miles in our Marlin

Great shots! Thanks for putting all this together. Question: I have heard you can't anchor close in to the beach at Ft. Jeff except for off-loading for camping, etc. However, could you do so, say, at Loggerhead Key or any of the other surrounding islands? If not, we'll have to take a kayack or...

    1997 208 Adventure

fullphase; As I mentioned in my post above, not only assess the waterline/scupper issue, but pay particular attention to any porpoising of the boat while on plane at cruise. Stern weight will cause it and you'd have to always correct it with tabs/trim. Also, as you come off plane, watch and see...

    Trailer Brake Maintence

I have been trailering Grady's for 18 years. I just make sure whatever needs replaced at the beginning of the season is attended to and go. These problems are part of trailering. In many cases the trailers are undersized; they go over rough roads, usually at 60+ MPH with the weight of the boat...

    snaps on curtians done

Happy endings are good. When my 232 was new, I had to take the forward pieces over the windshield back to the shop to get them lengthened slightly so I could take it on and off. Enjoy the Keys run.

Bimini up or down at the Dock?

If I had one, I would fold it up every time for periods of non-use just to protect it from UV rays, moisture, bird poop, etc. The extended life expectancy would make it worth the effort for me. If I was heading out the next day, or using it over a weekend, I'd leave it up. Any longer than a day...

    1997 208 Adventure

Hey fullphase; I am not really knowledgeable on this setup, but I can help a little. a 208 owner would be best to comment here. The 225 Honda is on the verge of being too heavy for the rig, especially when you add the weight of the 8 HP kicker. Obviously the boat has been re-powered, so Grady...
