Joe, I don't want to rain on your parade but just in case you have not already purchased the windlass, I wanted to warn you that the Lewmar products are not the same as they were when their products were made in California. They now make their products in China and the quality is not what it...

    transom rot or not ?

For a start just remove one of the garboard screws. If the core is wet and rotten, you will see water dripping out in a short time. If so either move on or expect the cost of rehabbing the transom. If it doesn't pass this test there is no need to spend the coin for a survey. If it doesn't drip...

Recommendations Auto pilot / Power steering pump

Jjmag, I am surprised that you feel you need power steering on a 22 ft boat. Do you feel a lot of resistance when you turn the wheel? The autopilot is the best addition a person can make but my single engine turns easily without power steering. Just curious. Doc Stressor is right on with his...

    trailer springs

Not trying to put words in Trappers mouth seasick but those bolts are called "wet bolts" if you are looking for them. Heres how they are built. If you are installing them you need to be cognizant of the orientation of the grease hole so it is not sealed off when the weight is on the spring as it...

Best Way to Remove Diesel Soot

On a white hull in the past, the only way I could get every last trace of the blackness gone was to use a strong detergent, which does remove the wax, then work the area over with an oxidation/restorer wax product like 3M or Meguires make. That got rid of the last of the black. You might try...

    starboard battery constantly dies

To find which circuit is draining the battery, this the simplest way I have found... Isolate the battery by disconnecting any cables going to other batteries but leaving the culprit battery connected into the system as usual...now disconnect the negative cable from the battery and Using a test...

    Cockpit light replacement

When I installed one of those lights on my hardtop I was a bit stymied also. I found that the lens over the bulbs is removed by sliding the tip of a small flat screwdriver under the edge and slide it around the perimeter till it bumps one of the tabs that lock it in place. Keep doing this till...

    Removing Bolsters on a 228

Look on the bottom side of the pads and you will see a brass grommet every few inches. With a Phillips screwdriver you can feel around and find a screw to remove in each grommet. When they are all out pull straight up and the pad will come off. That's how mine are fastened.

Two Simrad 7 inches in Grady 228. Possible?

I believe the information bar can be moved to whatever area you want it. Mine has that option and it is just a GO9 version. A level or two downgrade from yours Pighunter.

    Trim tab switch

It's called EIC. It involves removing the rams and installing a sensor rod in each ram. This is the installation instructions. It's an easy DIY project depending on the ease of access to the inside of the transom on your particular model. Really a good upgrade...

Trailer Winch strap Orientation on 208 Adventurer?

I think for the ratchet pawl to work properly, you will need to unbolt the winch from the stand and spin it around, which puts the crank on the other side. Then wind the strap on over the top.

    228 Windlass install completed.

John, That's a genuine Bristol installation. That setup should make anchoring a breeze. Maintaining the ability to flip the hatch open to deal with any eventuality will pay off. There is one thing though, ...every time I see a picture of your work bench I start feeling very inadequate. When I...
