    Throwable PFD

I think the best is a life ring with line in a dispensing stuff-bag. Mounted on appropriate bracket to be easily accessible. I don't know the lay-out of your boat but location will be easy for you to figure out.

Change-out fold down sleeper seat with captains chair on 2005 tournament

No issues really. I did not put a backing plate under the deck. I used 1/4 inch toggle bolts and it is quite strong. As you can see in the picture, the starboard seat base actually overlaps the stringer beside the fuel tank so installing a backing plate is not possible there. I used screws in...

I wonder if that's what sparklers have on them that burn?

    Help with trim tab anodes

The fact that it burns s readily makes welding it pretty tricky. I don't know how it's done but some guys do it. I had a piece of a chainsaw welded that was magnesium and it came back looking horrible. The welder said he had welded aluminum before and thought it couldn't be much different. He...

    Help with trim tab anodes

Aluminum will melt also but at a much higher temp than zinc. Magnesium will actually flame up. That is the same material that is in the fire starter kits in survival kits.

    Help with trim tab anodes

BB, Drill into the anode enough to get a small amount of cuttings. Turn a propane torch on the cuttings. If they burn they are magnesium. If they simply melt they are zinc.

    help finding hatch flush nuts

Those are probably barrel nuts and screws. On delicate materials like plexiglass, the barrel length stops the screw head from applying to much compression of the material causing failure. They are purchased by diameter and material thickness. They are available in aluminum, stainless steel and...

    Updating Ditch Bag

Don't forget extra sun protection items if you are boating in Southern climes. Extra ball caps, gators, bandanas and such for expected number of crew. Sun damage to the head and neck can be serious if the rescue runs into multiple days. Water is far more important than food for the first week.

    T-Bag dilemma

When we lived in the Pacific Northwest, we wore our auto-inflatables all the time but down here in SW Florida it is less desirable. we hang inflatables on the helm chairs but for additional occupants it's harder to keep them handy and out of the way at the same time. On night trips we usually...

    T-Bag dilemma

I do believe they will be mold makers if you don't unload them periodically, spray everything down and let things dry. I've never owned one but just trying to figure out a better way to deal with PDFs, than strewn around down below.

    T-Bag dilemma

I guess I could do that. I also though about buying a zippered one and taking it to a canvas shop and have some flaps with velcro sewed on. Probably gonna double the cost compared to off the shelf. I get a surprise every once in awhile when I open my ditch bag and the zipper is a little ornery...

    T-Bag dilemma

I have decided to try a t-bag to stow my PFDs. Having them in the cuddy while underway is too unhandy and asking people to wear one constantly when its 90 degrees and 80% humidity isn't received well here. I have a walk-around so I can fit one wide enough to hold 6 PDFs under the top but all...

Tournament 205 - differences over the years and advice/caution

If the one you buy has a V6 Yamaha, be aware that if the motor is trimmed up all the way and allowed to lean over to full lock , the cowling may contact the cut-out of the liner. I owned one for a couple of years and recently sold it. The Grady dealer mechanic that mounted the motor clued me in...

    Marlin 300 - Trim Tab/Plane Replacement

If the motor is trimmed down and heavy throttle is applied in reverse with the motor turned "hard over" while maneuvering then the thrust column of water can damage trim tabs. Recessed tabs are not so likely to be harmed. If the motor is trimmed up a bit so the reverse thrust water mostly...

    Fuel cap O-rings

Just a reminder to check those O-rings so a little thing doesn't become a big thing. These came off a 2006 boat and obviously have been ignored.

    Power steering out

There will be a fuse or breaker for the power assist pump. If the unit is the most common, SeaStar 1200 series, then there is another internal fuse. It can be accessed by removing the cover from the pump. Be sure to turn off the battery switches before changing that fuse. Make sure you indeed do...
