    Pompanette Vinyl Armrest Restoration?

SEM Vinyl Coat in Ranger Off-White is a nearly perfect match for the Pompanette armrests and it lasts a season or two before repainting. I use a light sanding block to smooth the vinyl surface and then clean with soap and water before spraying on two coats of the vinyl coat.

    Starting Your Panda

I’ve noticed it’s taking a little longer to start my Panda diesel genset than usual. If you have one, how long do you normally need to crank it to get it going? Mine runs perfectly once started, but it’s taking about three or four 10 second cranks to get it going. Mine is 16 years old.

    Suzuki Props For Marlin

I just lost one of my 15 year old Yamaha 250s and rather than spend the $8-10k the mechanic says it will take to get it running properly again, I’ve decided that the day for the inevitable repower has arrived. So I’ve ordered a pair of Suzuki DF300APs that I think will be a nice improvement for...

    Long Term Refrigerator Use

I haven’t had my Marlin for long and I don’t regularly use the DC refrigerator, but we’ll be making a coastal trip soon and will be living dockside for several days and want to keep the fridge running constantly. I assume that it’s fine to keep the fridge running off batteries while hooked up to...

What is this and how serious is it?

Lots of us have sunk survey money into a boat we didn’t buy. It’s probably the best money you will ever spend.

You can use the same deck material on any hard flat surface, and I’ve seen a number of boats that seem to put it everywhere. I had it installed on the surfaces the helm and passenger seating is mounted on, as well as the instrument console on my tower (to cover a few cracks as well as to dress...

    Off shore safety

i believe the major difference between the Spot and Inreach is the size of the satellite networks they use. Inreach definitely has better coverage. To be honest, I bought the Spot more for convenience than as a safety device. I won’t be texting the Coast Guard to tell them my boat just caught...

    Off shore safety

I’m beginning to think a basic satellite communication device is the perfect supplement to my EPIRB and VHF radio. It can be used for emergency communication as well as for just staying in touch when I’m offshore. The SPOT X 2-Way Bluetooth Satellite Messenger is on sale everywhere for $200...
