    Am I over-propped? - First update!

It's been my experience that propping for a light load will only result in a 200 or 300 RPM decrease when fully loaded...and performance changes are minimal. Do you remember how much fuel was in the boat when you got it? Seems to me that the addition of bottom paint, and having the tank 3/4+...

    Bow to Stern Drain Pipe??

The PVC just passes through the bulkheads. It's not a continuous run from bow to stern.

    Future Grady Center Consoles 20-22'

If it will make the boat less geared toward fishing...they'll probably do it.

    Getting to Shower Pump

If I ever have to get in the forward bilge again, I'm pulling that cover out and completely doing away with the inspection plate. The hole will get glassed over, gelcoated and diamond non-skidded. Perimeter screw holes will get filled and gelcoated. Lastly, I'll install some sort of nice...

Fuel/Water Separator Questions for the Experienced Owners

I think the Racor filter you want is part. no 3213, but don't quote me on that.

    252G outboard to inboard conversion

I like the idea, but I would do it a bit differently. Get rid of the outboard bracket entirely and slide the engine, trans and running gear forward to get it all under the boat. Cut the hull and build a prop pocket to lessen the downward angle of the shaft. Or you could just buy an '81 or...

    Props with better grip?

At slow speeds, the most important thing is to have large diameter wheels. I went from 14 x 19 Yamaha SS 3-blades to 15-1/4 x 19 Merc. Mirage Plus SS 3-blades on my boat and noticed a huge improvement in "around the dock" handling. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Yamaha SWS...

cabin window leak in 1990 gulfstream 23

Take the windows out completely and glass in the holes. That's what I plan to do if my boat doesn't sell. :D

    Fuel Tank Discovery (20' Dolphin'77)

You mean they will come and take the wife off of the boat so you can stay out longer and fish more????

Gulf Stream ride versus Trophy Pro

Despite being 2' shorter, I bet the '92 Gulfsream will ride better than the '88 Trophy Pro due to the fact that the Gulfstream has the Sea V2 hull. If you want the best of both worlds, look for a '92 or later 25' Dolphin.

    Tournament 307

It looks great, but I still don't get the point of big bow riders. I would think they (the 275 and 307) would appeal more to families looking to do day trips (which I assume is the target market) if it had a cuddy cabin instead of the forward seating.

    HOW TO: Replicating Diamond Non-Skid

PVA stands for Poly-Vinyl Alcohol I believe. It's a mold release agent. You spray it on to prevent the new gelcoat from adhering to the existing surface. It is often used in conjunction with a mold release wax...which is applied to the surface first.

    228g position on Venture Trailer

rorkin, I understand your desire to want to minimize the number of times you put the boat on and off the the trailer, but at some point you'll have to stop asking for pictures and just start the trial and error process. You'll end up spending less overall time gettting it set up the way you...

    228g position on Venture Trailer

Move the rear crossmember back if you can. Looks like you would then have to slide the boat and winch post back a bit to keep the aft most roller close the transom. Then move the axles back to get the proper tongue weight. Squeeze the front rollers in some to elevate the bow if it hits the...

    Hydraulic Lock ???

Yep. It's a very common issue with vehicles that do water crossings when 4-wheeling. Water gets sucked in through the intake and then won't compress like a fuel/air mixture when the piston comes up. End result...bent/broken stuff. It's an immediate failure. That being said, I'm not sure...

    Grady or Mako?

If you're talking older boats, they are both prone to the exact same issues. Transom rot, stringer rot, soft floors, leaking gas tanks, poor wiring, etc. But as you get newer, the Gradys get better and the Makos get worse. If I were in the market for a late 70s to late 80s boat, I...

    Towing other Boats

If the stern eyes are a concern in a towing situation, just put some larger SS backing plates on the inside and outside. IMHO, that would be far better than trying to install a towing post in the center of the floor...which consists of the gas tank cover that's held down with a few screws and...
