I'm sure that owners of those two boats w/ that power will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the general concensus is that a single 250 is marginal at best on both of those hulls.

Nope. In that engine, the only difference between it and a standard rotation is the gear case. If it's a good deal, and the engine checks out, jump on it.

Yes, the boat will ride higher in the water when on plane. But why chance it? If you hit an underwater obstruction at 20 kts, you're screwed. Be patient and take it slow.

In '94, the only Sailfish was the 252. Has your's been rebadged?

Definitely don't spray any type of carb cleaner in it. That stuff will dilute the gas/oil mix that lubes the crank/bearings/rods/etc. Not good...

But look where the actual scum line is....just below the top edge of the scuppers. I imagine that's no worse than most other older boats. It actually looks like it sits pretty well to me.

Put a mark on both the drive shaft sleeves and inner hubs on the props. Then run the boat, pull the props back off and see if your marks have moved. If so, you're spinning your hubs and that could give you the surging. However, I vote for weak fuel pumps. Also, in my opinion Grady is...

Move the rollers or bunks in towards the center of the trailer a bit. That will lift the boat up allowing you to slide it forward a bit more. Post a pic if you can.

Have you checked the fluid level? Is there any indication of a leak around the trim/tilt rams?
