    1999 islander scupper hoses.

I'm sure it is possible that the manufacturer of the hose had a bad run, but beyond this I can't comprehend how in the world GW allowed a material like this to be used on their boats. The fact that many boats beyond 99 have had this issue leads me to think GW had some low standards when it came...

    Too good to be true

The flywheel is also the harmonic balancer on that engine. Once the rubber in the flywheel degrades after a short period of time in a specific rpm range, the harmonics are left to do damage. The cranks typically snap from fatigue. I know another issue is water getting trapped in the engine...

Trailer guide poles or bunks ?

Guide poles on a properly set-up trailer work very well. I rarely see guide bunks and wondered if they helped prevent the bow from getting away from you, or if they just became a problem on steep ramps where they will be too submerged to do any good.

    Repower prop selection

Because I don't know your level of experience with prop selection, I could be stating the obvious. Are the gear ratios from the old to the new engines the same? Every engine has characteristics that can make it challenging to find the best performance out of props due to diameter, pitch, engine...

    '95 268 Islander

I wouldn't do it. 225 ox66's have some serious grunt, even by today's standards for a 225. That engine is nearly identical to the ox66 250. Sure, peak power is higher on the 250, but I would guess the low and mid range of the 225 are nearly the same as the 250. That is a lot of additional thrust...

    Freedom 225 Capacity Plate

Sean, if you are really thinking of having 10 people on a 22' boat, I would think 4 of them would have to be children to stay under the max load rating. Another issue is will you have enough power to move that much load? I'd personally be nervous running a bow rider with that much weight...

    Freedom 225 Capacity Plate

Based on the examples, and extrapolating via SWAG, the 248 should have a capacity of 16-20 people! However, it appears the manufacturer has the option to do whatever they want as long as the total passenger load comes up less than what the calculation method provides. My guess is the plate on...

    Freedom 225 Capacity Plate

I've also wondered the validity of the plate. Our 248 at 25' long only has a capacity of 8 according to the plate. The boat has a single, no hard top, and no auxiliary tank, yet one with all those features still has a capacity of 8 despite being 1000+ lbs heavier. Apparently "payload" on boats...

Seasick knows those engines inside and out. Hit him up if he doesn't chime in.

    2004 journey trailer measurement

Pretty sure GW customer service can tell you. I'd give you my numbers, but my hull is slightly different and I'm not sure if they moved the bow eye. For some reason it is very high on a 248.

    The shoe dropped (my fault)

While it isn't always 100% perfect, we have good luck compartmentalizing gear. If we are fishing, the fishing gear is in one part of the barn, while a play/cruise day is stored elsewhere. I also have a routine when launching or retrieving. When I board the boat I always empty my pockets into the...

    Weight Distribution Hitch

Most truck manufacturers derive their numbers for tongue weight based on SAE J2807. The numbers for tongue weight with a non wdh are often extremely conservative as a CYA for the manufacturer. Let's face it, most guys pulling a trailer have no idea what their tongue weight is or bother to look...

    The shoe dropped (my fault)

Took one more look at my truck from about 50' away to make sure it was locked and that I had closed the rear slider before we shoved off. All good. Coming back in from a long day on the water I noticed it seemed to be a little easier to look through the rear passenger window of my truck. Nah...

    2 step boarding ladder source?

I had no idea they made so many different widths and configurations. The one I'm looking for is 12" wide and does not fold. My plan is to piggy-back to my existing ladder another one that will extend down through a guide rail. For it to work and hopefully not look like a hack-job, it needs to be...

    Trolling speed question...

I talked to a Suzuki dealer about twin df200 4 cylinders for an Islander. He personally owns a 273 (same hull as the 268) with df200's. He said those speeds would be no issue with 1 engine. Fwiw, the df200 gives the best of both worlds. Low gearing that turns the prop more slowly at low speeds...

    2 step boarding ladder source?

I did a quick search for Garelick ladders and eBay has many. I might be able to find what I need there. Thanks again Viking for the lead.

    2 step boarding ladder source?

Unfortunately that ladder is too wide. I need a 12" ladder like mine.
