    2002 248 Voyager

I've owned one for 10 years. The docking issue has to do with the water flow of the prop hitting the "step" in the hull. When docking get into the habit of tilting your engine up until the water flows under the step. The boat should handle like any other boat by doing this. As for the ride, the...

    2002 Grady 282 - Brass Drain Tubes

I did the same project this past weekend with nearly all the same steps. I used 5200. Hopefully I never need to remove them!

You are a generous man! Looks like I'll hold onto them till someone else has the need. Members message me if you need the tool and I'll send it out.

    Motorwell drains

Big thanks to Willy for making another set of flanging dies for drain tubes. I finally got mine done this weekend after sitting non them for 2 months waiting for a warm couple days. Considering how far from square the holes were drilled on my transom, I think this came out good for novice...

    '95 268 Islander

If the 95 and 98 transoms are indeed the same, and the 95 transom is in great shape, then it is doable. The 200 etec ho is a 3.3 and likely making more midrange power than an ox66 3.1.

    '95 268 Islander

Does the 98 use the aluminum brace in the transom that is connected to the stringers? If the 95 doesn't, you could be comparing apples to oranges with regards to transom strength. Buoyancy will of course be the same. What displacement are the etec 200 HO?

    repower

Can it move the boat? Sure. Will it move it well, not likely. A 200 2-stroke makes a lot of midrange power and probably makes 200 hp at a much lower rpm than an i4 4-stroke. The 200 i4 makes 200 hp near max rpm. Most Grady hulls were designed to cruise around 28-32 mph. To hit those speeds with...

Transom Rebuild - The Saga Begins

I could see GW stepping up for the original owner, but unfortunately not a chance there after. If they did, the line would get long in a hurry.

    Seat glides

Willy, If you find a source, please let us know. BTW, your press tool is still sitting on my bench waiting for warm weather. We haven't seen a winter this consistently cold in a long time, so I haven't had the conditions to install my flared fitting. Forecasting 52 this weekend, but I still...

Anyone come up with tool to straighten anchors out?

We straightened ours out relatively easily with some basic tools. Drive the round stock (round tube at the top of your photo) into firm ground. Make sure the bend in the shank (where the chain attaches) is curled upward. Be sure to block the fluke (triangular part) so that the stock is...

Whats it worth? Repowered 24' Offshore

Ballparking the value of the engine is easy. You can get numbers off NADA. If I had to guess $18k-20k with controls. The hard part is when you combine it with an older hull. Unfortunately the reality is that rarely will anyone pay the value of the engine plus the value of an older hull. I follow...

    Single engine on larger boat?

Even with a big battery the energy density still isn't good enough for more than 30-60 minutes of run time at cruise. There are several viable battery technologies on the horizon that will easily double to triple this or better. If you think GM is commiting to all electric by 2035 with the...

    Single engine on larger boat?

Dennis, I do wonder at what point Grady will break its alliance with Yamaha. Mercury is inovating at a pace Yamaha does not seem to be interested in or can't justify the cost to keep up with. Mercury products are lighter, quieter, more fuel efficient, easier to maintain, and nearly as bullet...

    Single engine on larger boat?

I doubt you will see this on a mass produced single application. If you need 600 hp, the boat is big enough to need at least 2 engines for close quarters operation. This is an engine for the 0.5%. Regardless it is some great engineering. I've often said time and money can create a solution for...
