    Automatic Bilge Pump continously running

Every Grady that I've seen had an external float switch. That must be the factory installation on most models. You can't alway see the float on models like the Rule. It is enclosed in the case. However, there is a small metal lever that is hard to see close to where the wires enter. You can use...

what was last yr for 204-c lapsides ?

Well, the 1983 204C had a lapstrake hull and the 1985 does not. I'm not sure about 1984, but that should help you date the hull. They did have transom rot problems, mostly as the result of water leaking through the aluminum trim molding at the top of the splash well. My 1975 204C needed a...

Flush the fresh water tank ?

I would not recommend adding any bleach to drinking water for everyday use. The dose above is used for livestock tanks, but it's not for human consumption. You can use bleach to sterilize drinking water in an emergency, but FEMA no longer recommends this. The bleach will break down after a day...

My First real bad weather incident

I had a similar experience with my 204C back in 1979. When I had the boat up in Niantic CT, we would fish for stripers at night out in the Race area. So when we moved the boat to Tarpon Springs FL, I figured that fishing at night would be a great way to beat the heat. We headed out to a spot...

    Oddball Fuel Issues

You have to first suspect the fuel system whenever you have that kind of problem. Things to consider: 1) Dump your external fuel filter/water separator and the first internal filter in the engine and look for water. Startron doesn't do much for water in the fuel regardless of what they...

    Nervous fuel gauge

I would check the ground connection of both the gauge and the sending unit on the tank. That's the usual cause of instability.

Grady White Craziness on the Hull Truth...

While envy plays a part in some of those posts, you have to realize that most of the guys beating their chests on THT like go fast boats or fishing boats that are based on ocean racer type hulls. So when they compare the ride of a Grady to a Yellowfin or a Regulator, there is something to what...

    Dried Sap on Gelcoat

Goof Off. It's a mixture of toluene and xylene that is available just about everywhere. I've used it to remove pine sap from my gelcoat many times. You just have to wash and re-wax or polish the treated area.

    Furuno DFF1 and B164 1KW transducer??

Have you tried switching the J12 jumper? It's easy to confuse the 600kW and the 1kW positions. It's possible to test the output of the transducer with the proper instruments. I would give Gil Travis a call: He's very knowledgeable and will talk your ear off regarding Airmar units.

    Bolster repair

I've repaired small pokes and tears with white liquid electrical tape. It seems to be holding up. The color doesn't match exactly. But it looks better than covering the tear with vinyl tape, which is another option.

Rebuild or buy a new trailer

Here's my "other" boat: I replaced the springs and fenders 3 years ago and the springs need to be replaced again pretty soon. Saltwater really eats them up even if you rinse them well. As long as your trailer is cosmetically pleasing to you, it always makes sense to replace the parts than to...

    Oil

Yep. Ringfree is a concentrated Techron formulation that lets you add less per gallon of gas. There is no advantage in using automotive Techron Concentrate with regard to either price of performance. People using Pennzoil or other synthetic 2 stroke oils report less smoke and carbon build up...

    New here Overnighter 204C

I bought a 204C back in 1975, the first year that they were made. The power options were 85, 115, or 135 hp singles or twin 70 hp. Grady didn't package the boats with engines back then, so the options were pretty much up to the dealers.

    Yamaha F150 Harmonic Balancers Noisy-Repost-$$$$$$$$$$$

Only the earlier years (2004 and 2005) had the old style harmonic balancers. Yamaha replaced one for me in a 2004 F150 in 2009 at no cost to me. I think that they handled this issue very well. The F225 exhaust tube corrosion thing maybe not so well. But since the corrosion problem only seems to...

    Overheat Warning

A bad poppet valve is often a cause of overheating at low speed. It has little effect on temperature at high speed. I would bet that this is your problem.

    Aux. motor fuel line?

Same here. Both engines connected to the filter housing. I've heard of a few sterndrives having problems with that type of plumbing. But outboards have primer bulbs with check valves. There is no siphoning effect.

    Gelcoat

Gelcoat doesn't stick to MarineTex (or any epoxy) unless you let it cure completely, then wash it with soap and water to remove the "amine blush". If you do that and then sand the area before applying the gelcoat, you should be OK.
