Help me decide gulfstream or islander

Sealevel: Welcome to the forum. Where do you boat (inland, offshore) and what do you want to do with the boat? In my opinion, both boats are on the low end of power. For inland cruising, that may be fine. But for offshore use in anything but calm water, you may wish for a little more throttle...

Update on my F250... it is seized!!!

Bob: Don't kick yourself. You bought a motor with a great reputation. And I believe that yamaha will want to keep that reputation. Keep us posted. Rob

Tigercat: I'm curious, why aren't cats good drift boats? Tx, Rob

Jet Ski Reincarnation and Back River Flounder Fishing

Brian: Your fishing boat is intriguing, but the pictures blew me away! Do you take what I presume to be a very expensive camera, fishing? Rob

    who's looking out for boaters?

Hi Bob. Yes, Boat U.S. Foundation is one of the more active lobbyists for boaters. When you pay your annual member dues there is a box to contribute to the foundation. Also, I suspect that SC would have a fairly strong marine industry association that would be directing boaters into an...

    My son...not really Grady related

Bob: Congratulations to Kyle for making it through the cast! I imagine that a week of intensive physical therapy will be equally challenging, so tell Kyle - and Tonya - to hang in there. Y'all take care. Rob

    Level flotation

I believe that all boats under 20' are required to provide "upright and level flotation", i.e., the gunnels would be above water if you drill a hole in the bottom and let the boat settle gently. All Grady's under 20' meet that requirement. I don't count on the "upright and level" provision...

    Grady White Newsletter

Dwain: I wouldn't run on "both" or "all", even just on the way in. From what I've read, the engine's charging system can't properly read the charge on both batteries at once. And, depending on how far you run, I always like to know that I have a fully charged battery, should i have a problem...

    New 208 Owner-Performance Question

Biscayne: First, welcome to the forum. I had a 1995 208 with a 150 HPDI on it. I got 30 mph at 4,000 rpm and about 2.5 mpg. Top end was about 38 mph with the bimini top folded down. Also, about halfway through ten years of ownership, I added bennett trim tabs. That made a good ride...

Whats the history of the Sailfish from late 80s to late 90s?

Simply put, I believe it went from a 25' boat with a bolt-on bracket option, to an integrated bracket (272) to having the running bottom extend the full length beneath the integrated bracket (282). I believe the beam remained fairly constant. Best answer is to look under "customer resources"...

    Bahamas Trip

I've not heard of that with such certainty - but that certainly doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Before we had a Grady group, we would sometimes do a radio check and encounter someone else heading over. But most folks I know want to get an early start. Seas are generally calmer in early mornings...

    Bahamas Crossing Safety Question

A couple of points from my experience: 1. If you're returning home from the ports closest to Florida, i.e., West End or Bimini, your weather forecast is the same NOAA broadcast we get in the U.S. Okay, not perfect, but the best there is. 2. If you sign up for Local Boater Option, it is...

    Bahamas Trip

I have done a number of crossings with Mariner Marine, the Grady dealer for WPB. They have all been great. Mariner Marine used to organize the crossings themselves. Now we have our own Grady membership group in which Mariner Marine is very active. Check out our website at...

    Downrigger for Gulfstream

Finatic: If you're using the typical lead ball, then rod holder mount is okay, in my experience. However, if you're using a planer, like a Z-Wing, then I'd recommend direct mounting. Not sure you need to have a backing plate, but I've just used oversized washers with no problem. I do use a...

Took The Grady out yesterday do these numbers sound right?

Jellyfish: Your numbers sound right. If you're topping out at 6,000 rpm with your typical load, then you're propped exactly right. And your speed sounds like it is just where it should be with an F200. As a former 208 owner, I'll add that trim tabs are a good addition. I added mine several...

Do I need zincs on my trim tabs?

I guess I have not paid much attention, but I don't recall seeing zincs on Grady tabs. I'm not sure where they would go? Couldn't go on top of tab because tab retracts into a pocket. If on bottom of tab, wouldn't it create some drag? Also, not sure how far this will go in Ken's situation, but...
