    F300 Repower - Early Observations

Just had my 2005 F250 replaced with the new F300 on my Journey 258 today. After only four hours towards break-in, here are some early observations while running in the calm ICW followed by a few cell phone photos. Numbers are from Yamaha guages: Definitely a bit more power and better fuel...

How important is a G2 Vision card in a Garmin 5212?

I just added a G2 Vision after 5 years of not having one in my 4208. I didn't find any features that are important to me. Maybe if I were boating in unfamiliar waters I would see more value in it, but not for my home waters. Rob

    255 power

I opted for a single engine six years ago and have not regretted it. Nearly 1300 hours later and the F250 has been flawless. All of my boating is within 20 miles of shore unless we're running to the Bahamas with others. I carry a back-up radio, EPIRB and sea anchor. And I keep a BoatUS towing...

    Repower Question

BigFishin: Looking at the 1988 catalog, your boat outweighs mine by 500 lbs and adds a foot to the beam. I'd say a single F250 is not enough. If you're only boating on calm, inland water and don't mind running the motor at a 5,000 rpm cruise speed (just guessing here) then you might get by. But...

    Austrian Adventure

Brian: I couldn't wait to open this post and it did not dissappoint! My wife and I honeymooned in Austria 21 years ago and loved it. The pictures are great. Tx, Rob

    Freedom 255 Performance Numbers

Bukster: I believe that Grady has F350 numbers for the 257 and 258. Same hull and probably similar weight so should give you a good idea. And I agree that for those of us who prefer single engines, the F350 looks to be ideal.

    Question about 200 HPDI

I believe the HPDIs drop two cylinders in the low rpm range to meet emissions standards. Made idle speed fairly rough, but I was told that was normal. But mine would smooth out around 800 rpm. Could it be that your two cylinders are kicking in a bit later than they should?

Trip from Naples to Fort lauderdale

Kent: If you go the Lake route, make sure all the locks are operating. Below is a link that describes the locks, but I would suggest calling the Army Corps in Clewiston to confirm before you go. The locks will slow you down, especially on a weekend. Once you hit the east coast, run down the...

    Getting on plane

Family Isle: First, welcome to the forum. I'm afraid i don't have a good answer, but maybe a suggestion. Try posting this in the "Tips and Modifications" section. You're likely going to get the attention of the many single-engine Gulfstream owners there. Also, you may want to clarify what you...

Tackle and Rod Storage in Journey 258

Reed: First, welcome to the forum and congrats on a great boat! I have wrestled with the same questions and can only share thoughts, because I haven't made any changes yet. I prefer the open space of the starboard tackle compartment over the port tackle drawer. I buy rectangular tupperware...

Should I have my fuel sender repaired under warranty

Ken: I suspect that both Grady and your delear would rather fix it than have a customer disappointed about some aspect of his new boat. Give them that chance. Rob

Voyager 248 - update - need surveyor in Two Rivers, WI area

Re: Voyager 248 power configuration Dan: My 258 is the same hull except with the running bottom extended all the way to the transom. I'll say that the 225 is enough depending on what you want to do with it. For a few guys to go fishing, it will get you on plane fine, give you a top end of 38 -...

New Design and Forum Software Upgrade

I like the fresh, new look. I agree with Parthery, however, in that I'd like to be able to see more on one screen. My computer is a laptop, so yeah, it is a smaller screen than a typical desktop. Tx, Rob

    208 vs 228

TF: I had a 1995 208 for ten years. It will certainly handle the uses you describe. Just don't plan to run on a fast plane with closely spaced 3 footers or bigger. We test drove a 228 in 2005. Two feet longer is worth something and the 228 rode incrementally better, but, in my experience, not...
