    Grady White Newsletter

Like Gman said..one at a time. I was always told NEVER to switch from one to the other WHILE the engine is running. I guess serious damage can happen. The only time I ever used "All" was when the individual batteries wouldn't start the engine. "All" funnels the power of the two batteries...

What's the beef about Grady on that other boating forum

I enjoy my Gulfstream immensely. I do have one pretty big complaint, and had it with my Seafarer that I had for 10 years. The cabin leaks. Not just thru the side windows. Thru the access panel below the helm, also. They didn't tighten down the gauge panel at the factory and it leaked behind...

    My son...not really Grady related

I join with the others here in prayers and best wishes for your son. We have talked about a Tortugas trip in the future. I am looking forward to it and watching your son splash around in the shallows near our anchored boats. Take Care, Bill.

    Took the boat out today...

I would enjoy an early shakedown myself, but the iced over lake precludes it.

Intro and Question: What to look for in a used Seafarer

In the 10 years I had my Seafarer, I ran it thru many following sea situations on Lake Michigan and Lake Erie. Fresh water waves are closer together than their saltwater counterparts. Even in these conditions, the Seafarer was stable and dry. I could surf downsea in seas up to 5 foot no...

Intro and Question: What to look for in a used Seafarer

The Gulfstream is a bigger(and better) boat, and your towing concerns are well-founded. If your worried about towing a Seafarer, the Gulf would be too much. I owned a Seafarer for 10 years. It is a super all-around boat. It rides OK; is pretty stable and can sleep two below. I would run no less...

The "Grady Bunch" tuna guys in the Pacific NW

5 Salt.. Interesting stuff. It's neat to hear some hands-on boater talk about the West Coast..It's, as you know, a whole different world than Florida or the Great Lakes. have a great season!

    Bahamas Trip

wahoo and Watershark.. This sounds like a good way to cross. When I have the time in the future to attempt it, this is the way I would like to do it. Obviously, there's safety in numbers... if one has a breakdown of any kind, it's worth diamonds and gold to have help on hand as opposed to...

    Bahamas Crossing Safety Question

Just noticed you have a 232, as I do. Add your emergency gear, 3 kids, a wife(maybe?) and you have a full boat with too little room to maneuver in a dicey situation. That 232 is capable of the crossing in decent weather, but you'll be waaay better off with less people on board.

    Bahamas Crossing Safety Question

I ,too want to make that crossing someday. Therefore, no practical experience, but the gut feeling says fly them over. Even the best conditions change, emergencys happen at sea, and a complication you don't need is worrying about them when your hands are full with the emergency. An open-water...

The "Grady Bunch" tuna guys in the Pacific NW

5 Salt Fever.. Thanks for posting the clip and the info! I appreciate it! I assume summer is the best time to string together doable days on the ocean?

The "Grady Bunch" tuna guys in the Pacific NW

This is interesting.. At what point does the Coast Guard implement the restriction? How do they notify the boaters? VHF announcement? Is it just when the onshore swell reaches a certain height, or is there wind and wind/wave restrictions too? Great shots!

    Bottom Paint - Trailerable Boat

Pete.. I'm not sure what paint to tell you to use, but I CAN tell you that I keep my painted 232 on a trailer. Every time I winch it back on, the bunks rub along the bottom and mess the paint up. If you launch in-and-out as I do your bottom paint will always have marks on it. Unless you are...

Music choices - heading thru the pass.....

Mega and JUMPINJACK. I guess there's one exception to my "no music on board" rule.. Layla... I could play that song over and over even if I didn't hear my VHF for awhile.. In my opinion, the greatest guitar riff in rock-n-roll.

Whats your 2010 Special Event on your GW?

Sounds like a great plan for a trip..I have often thought about the Big Bend/Panhandle are, but never have committed. Marine Navagation out of Chicago has provided my charts in the past. Lady there in the 80's named Laura Cannell was great at it. Her service was nationwide as I recall. Me...

Music choices - heading thru the pass.....

SmokyMtnGrady.. Boy I wish I could name a date..The problem is stringing together enough time to allow for the trailer down to Key West, extra days for high winds that would potentially hamper a return trip..it goes on. We have both band and road/tech crew on the payroll and taking that much...

Music choices - heading thru the pass.....

Hi Smoky... Basically it's a "party band" All the hits performed with big PA, lights video, big-production,etc. Songs range from 80's rock-pop(Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Prince,) Some 70's anthems early in the nite before the dance music..(Hotel California,Pink Floyd, etc.) Couple country...

Music choices - heading thru the pass.....

My music is the music of boating, my VHF.. I perform for a living full-time and I don't want to hear music on my boat when I've played and sang it all week... A perfect evening is the lap of waves against the hull and the Coast Guard talking occasionally.

    Gulfstream 232 or Journey 258 ??

Hey Bighook.. I can only help a little as I am not a fisherman and have not rode in a 258. I do, however own a 2007 232 with twin 200 4-strokes and I absolutely love the boat. I overnite for 2 weeks at a time and have no prob. although I have no wife or young children. It rides really well...

    Tow Vehicle Mileage

JUMPINJACK... Very cool..Let me know what your average is when you pull your Sailfish around for awhile. Tash.. Again..I am puzzled that your research has turned up the low mileage figures that you stated. Like JUMPINJACK's, my Cummins is capable of 20 on the hiway, but only under 60 MPH...
