    New style cockpit drains

Sealant under the top flange. Not 4200, and not on the threads. This is a drain, there’s no water pressure to cause it to leak.

    Charming

Yeah, I didn't like the way he let the Charmin fall into the bowl, and you couldn't really see it in his hand. I have seen a similar video with the opposite results, where the RV TP literally melted in the water. On our boat, it's a moot point, toilet is seldom used and paper goes in a gallon...

    What could Grady do better?

As far as parts go, I think you would be hard pressed to come up with 5 things on your boat that Grady manufactures, other than molded fiber glass. I can't think of any, unless they have a sewing/upholstery shop somewhere, that they actually own. Grady makes hulls, they assemble boats from parts...

Bunch of Youtube videos. Don't know if they got consistent results.

    Marine head for Gulfstream

Someone did this a year or two ago, but I am not sure which boat model it was. You may be able to find the thread. edit; Here is one from 10 years ago. https://www.greatgrady.com/threads/jabsco-electric-head-conversion.15101/

    8 people on Tournament 19?

Inland lakes, or coastal? I had the 22 for 10 years, and I don't think I ever had 8 on board, maybe 6 adults. And that gets crowded, which is not why I go boating. I understand why 2 families with 2 kids want to do it, but you will have to balance your load, not too much weight ahead of the...

    Updating stereo on boat 228

On my 2000 SF228, my freshwater pump access plate is where you put that large speaker, on the front of the port helm seat base. Is yours behind the speaker?

    Fire Extinguishers

Is CRS a clinical abbreviation, or does it just mean, can’t remember shit?

Anchor Light for 2001 208 Adventure

This may belong in the, “What could Grady do better” thread. Why anyone would design a white light in front of the driver, unless totally obscured on the hardtop, is beyond my comprehension. It not only diminishes your night vision, but the shaft has to be so long, to get it above your direct...

    Water from drain plug

A bilge pump only works as long as the impeller is completely flooded. If you watch, it will always suck air, and cut off while there is still water around the base of the pump, unless your pump is sitting in a recessed hole in the bilge, which is rare. When it does cut off, the water in the...

    What could Grady do better?

Clean out all the crap that the builders leave behind, hole cut-outs, pieces of foam, wire, etc. that clog limber holes, before putting the cap on. Design the drainage in the stringers and bulkheads so that zero water is trapped in the hull.

    FRESH WATER PUMP,

I suspect that you mean Lewmar.

    Spring Commissioning

I think what gets done in a winterization varies from marina to marina. I would ask whoever winterized my boat what I needed to do to make ready for putting in the water, and check their list, and everything else I could think of. Make sure the plug is in, and make sure they actually put oil...

Oversize cup holders in the gunnels of a 228?

Four 1/4 inch bolt holes, mounting your typical downrigger base, removes a total of 0.196 in.² of plywood, spaced several inches apart. Drilling a 3 1/2 inch hole removes 9.62 in.² of wood, in one spot.

    What could Grady do better?

If you go to their website, and look at the gallery for every model in the lineup, you will see that their focus is family boating, not hard core fishing. If that is where the market is, then I say go for it. I am a Grady owner, four over the last 40 years, plus a few others, but I have never...

Oversize cup holders in the gunnels of a 228?

If you do it yourself, and are happy with the results, that is a job well done.

    What could Grady do better?

Guys like me, that buy 20 year old boats, hope that the things we find lacking have already been addressed. It would be interesting to know how many here bought their boats new. I agree that the eye level wind shield, and all that plastic and canvas can be a pain in the ass. I would like...

Oversize cup holders in the gunnels of a 228?

Rod holders are 2 or 2 1/8 hole. On my last two Gradys, '93 and 2000, the rod holder holes looked like someone cut them with a hammer and chisel, and some of the bolts had very little wood on the hole side. They should have put backing plates, just to cover up the sloppy work. When I added 4...

Oversize cup holders in the gunnels of a 228?

I think I would want to know what the dimensions are on that piece of plywood that you will be drilling through. You may be able to see it glassed in underneath the gunnel. Since a cupholder is not reinforced with a backing plate, like a rod holder is, you may be essentially cutting that piece...

    New Transducer Install

Often there are pads glassed into the hull, for transducers, seacocks, etc. You would probably want to stay on it, and have a consistent thickness, if there is one where the current transducer is.
