    OX66 Overheat Question

I have one motor overheating at low RPM. I usually do water pumps every other year, and they were done last year. Motor has the new style poppet valve also. End of last season I hit a rock that stalled this same motor. Could that have damaged the pump? Boat is in the water, seems like a...

    C80 Radar Overlay, Upgraded Firmware

You are correct with the firmware requiring the gyro. I did not notice an accuracy issue before, but also did not know that was a concern. The SMS 2 with Gyro seems reasonable used on eBay, but don't know how difficult it is to install. It looks to require some "hard wiring" on the terminals...

    99’ 250hp OX66 died but started again ?

I had some funny stalling issues with my ‘99 225’s when I first bought the boat. The previous owner had the marina trying to troubleshoot and never got to the bottom of it. That motor ended up having a bad O2 sensor and also leaking LP fuel pumps. The O2 sensor the engine would be all over the...

    C80 Radar Overlay, Upgraded Firmware

I recently sent my Raymarine C80 our for third party repair. I know it’s an older system, but the repair was a lot cheaper then going new. In the process the firmware was updated. With that update I am no longer able to use the radar overlay feature, it seems I need a “smart heading system”. I...

Replacing engine hour meter ‘99 sailfish

My '99 Sailfish does not have an hour meter at all which was typical it seems of boats in this era and before. At some point a new Yamaha gauge was put in and it shows 200ish hours now, but I know that is just since the new gauge. I would guess the original owner wanted a hour meter and they...

    New here, looking for Grady

I saw a sailfish without a hardtop before for sale used at the local dealer a while back, but have not seen one like that since. There is a 1995 Islander for sale on Cape Cod craigslist. My neighbor said he was talking to the seller at the ramp and said it broke free off the mooring and...

Tandem or TriAxle Trailer for 272 Sailfish?

I have the same boat and ended up with the 10,000lbs HD Tandem as recommended but the local dealer. In hind sight I might have upgraded to the 12,000 tri axle but in reality the tandem serves me well. I tow the boat about 3-4 miles to the ramp once a year and back so I am not going too far...

    Mooring Bridal Pendant for Marlin

I did not have the two cleats on either side from the factory, just the one in the center. I supported them with 1/4" thick aluminum plate underneath and have not had an issue for 3-4 seasons. My pennants do not chaff the underside of the pulpit even when just 1 is doing all of the work...

    Mooring Bridal Pendant for Marlin

I added a cleat to each side of the bow for the mooring lines on my Sailfish. I centered them between the bow rail support and the pulpit and place a mooring line on each one. Works well for me. I originally just had the one int he center on the pulpit and there would have been a lot of chaffing.

272 Sailfish Economy with Grady's Report

I posted a few weeks back about starting to consider some new to me four strokes for my boat if I can find a nice pair. That also got me researching what I should be seeing for numbers on what I have now. I was thinking I might be better off with 19p props but not really sure, I have 17's now...

Ox66 stalls under load at idle

I agree it does not sound like an O2 issue. Last year I had my LP pumps go and I had some weird symptoms. I was around 1200-1500 rpms I think and I accidentally hit the key switch off. Hard starting back up and over the next day or two I had a lot of trouble getting the motor into gear and...

Ox66 stalls under load at idle

I would still check the low pressure fuel pumps. Unbolt them from the block with the hoses still connected and hit the primer, if fuel is leaking the pump is bad. I have had an OX66 with a clogged O2 sensor tube but it was searching for rpms at higher speeds. From everything I have always...

    1999 Sailf Fish 0x66 BOGGING

If there was residue in the VST make sure you replace the filter, even if it looks clean I bet it has a lot of restricted flow. I would also take the injectors out and have them cleaned, the turn around is a week or less at most places you can mail them in. I would also replace the low...

New To Me Motor Repowering Info

My father and I decided we might start to keep our eyes open for a pair of Yamaha 225's to repower my 1999 272 Sailfish. The OX66's run great, but some more efficient 4-stokes would be nice. I know a lot of the early 225's have the corrosion issue. What years specific, from what I understand...

    Shift and throttle cable

I broke a shift cable last fall and replaced all 4 cables. I emailed Grady White and they sent me the lengths which were right on the money. There was not too much slack at the helm to work with. I pulled a little extra into the helm and buttoned that all up and then pushed it back to the...

Pre 1998 Grady Sailfish 272 Ride Quality and Planing Speed

Re: Pre 1998 Grady Sailfish 272 Ride Quality and Planing Spe My 272 is a 1999 and I do not have experience with the pre-1998 model. What I will say is that I think ride quality is in the eye of the beholder. I had a pre SeaV2 Grady Offshore before and was happy with that ride as well, but if...

    racor spin-on fuel filters

I have seen this white powder in new-to-me motors that have sat. The thought that it is the actual VST tank makes sense. If the aluminum oxidizes some in a period of little use (over the winter etc) I can understand how this would happen. We picked up a small 18' Cape Craft last fall for a...

replacing the brass tubes in engine well 33 express

I found the job to be easy and the two I had to do did not take too long at all. I bought the tubes flared on one end and the tool. I got the old ones out easy with a hammer and old chisel. I thought I bought the tubes the right length and extra long ones just in case, but I ended up having...

Offshore 24 leans to one side

I noticed when the fuel tank was low on my old Offshore I would get an uncomfortable lean to the starboard side. Weight was pretty even otherwise, one battery on each side, etc. When I had a bigger crowd on the boat and/or a full tank of fuel it didn't seem as bad or that noticeable. I had to...
