    Remembering the Edmund Fitzgerald

Drifter80; The wreak on South Manitou is indeed an interesting sight. The name of the ship was the San Fransisco Morazon..It was a Liberian Steamship that I thought ran aground in the 50's..didn't know it was in the 60's. When I read it I seem to remember that it was blown onshore on a strong...

    A Sad Sight!

Congrats.. Was it hard to give up both at the same time? Y'know, the price of fuel will have to get awful high to keep me off the water. Besides, we have all winter to save up...

    A Sad Sight!

Tashmoo.. Look what your saying...Not too many years ago, we would've had a cow at $2.50/gallon. Now that's cheap. Wait'll we think $4.00 is a bargain.....And we will...... My Gulfstream is put down except for some trailer work that'll be done this month. We trailer to Islamorada...

    Long-Term Corrosion Protection

I was told by Jimmy(you remember him??) and others that Boeshield T-9 was the stuff. I have it sprayed inside the cowling on the wiring, etc. before I go to the Keys every year..So far, no problems with my Yamaha 200's. This is worth noting, I think. My son Jason has a Donzi ZX with twin 150...

    Remembering the Edmund Fitzgerald

They had weather reports piped into the wheelhouse as they cruised Eastbound toward Whitefish Point. Capt. McSorley was in touch with the Capt. of the Arthur Anderson, Bernie Cooper. They stayed, I think 15 miles or so apart and maintained radio contact as the storm approached. The Arthur...

My first season with my Sailfish--impressions

BobP.. Don't tell me they're even THINKING about discontinuing the Gulfstream.

    Trailering with canvas in place

I agree with Renovater. Plus, I'm not real sure the canvas is constructed to withstand the winds built up by travelling 55-65MPH on the Hi-way. I'm sure they are built to hold up in a strong wind dockside, but think of travelling against a 20-plus mph headwind while your at past 50mph...

    Tiger Cat's

Haven't been on one..I'm pretty certain Grady stopped production due to slow sales/demand. I read a test on one in Boating Magazine a few years ago, and they reported that it handled kinda wierd like a Cat does, but was far-and-away better in rough conditions than the conventional monohulls...

Yamalube vs. Other 2-cycle oil in Yamaha 225

CJ.. Thanks for the reply...I'm OK with "long-winded" answers.. I am a Mobil 1 fan..I have a restored 16 Donzi Ski Sporter (Sweet 16) circa 1967 that I use Mobil 1 15-50 in. I had a '98 Chev 2500 4x4 with a 454 that I switched to Mobil 1 in for the last year I had it. I have been told by...

Yamalube vs. Other 2-cycle oil in Yamaha 225

CJ.. I didn't know that...Thanks for the info...It would make sense that Yamaha and the other engines would tout their own products. That said, they would be shooting their own feet if they marketed an oil with their name on it that caused engine problems. With these two things in mind...

Yamalube vs. Other 2-cycle oil in Yamaha 225

I have had a 250 Yamaha, circa 1994 My current 200 4-strokes have 126 hrs. on them. Between both setups, I have put hundreds of hours on each. Yamalube has been used from the start with zero problems. I may be missing something, but why not use Yamalube in Yamahas, Opti-oil in Mercs, and...

    Cleaning Gradys..

Jekyl.. Funny you should mention mechanics working on the boat and leaving it dirty.. That was one of the deciding factors in my purchasing my Gulfstream from Twin Cities Marine in Wisconsin. Not only are they real meticulous on their projects, but they throw rugs on the deck when they are...

New Sailfish owner with a handling question.

Renovator; Concerning Ethanol... I have had no problems..My rig is a 232 with twin 200 Four-Strokes. I keep the tank TOTALLY full..Fuel it after every trip, plus I trailer and store it full..No issues at all and this is my 2nd year with 126-or-so hours.

Fresh to salt water maintenance and precautions

CJ is correct.. I, too, was paranoid the 1st time(last year,) I took my 232 Gulfstream to the Keys. 1.) As previous posts stated. wash the whole boat after your days run..Stainless, everything. 2.) Flush the engine internally. My 200 Four-strokes have an attachment that allows you to connect...

    Gulfstream Trailering

Wilson is correct on the "size" of the trailer. I have a 9900LB Cap. tandem made by Integrity Trailers(Nunica, Michigan,) and it's necessary. I disagree on the roller issue. I have a bunk trailer, and have figured out the "sweet spot" to load it on every time. I DO have to sink it deeper into...

    Yes

My Gulfstream with twin 200's drifts stern-to like Capt. Bill's. My old Seafarer drifted stern-to also.

Survey: Is The Capital Meltdown Affecting You?

The above post by Haskindm should be required reading for all...It could not have been said better. That said, I'll bet Grady will feel some fallout from this crap, at least for the short-term in new boat sales.

    took a beating,but i sold my grady.

I am a Grady lover...I have no intention of selling my 232, but one of the things I was told and read about was that Gradys hold their value well. Seems to me as if they are no different than other boats in that regard. I had a Seafarer for 10 years. Sold if for a little more than 1/2 what...

the right trailer for my new 232 gulfstream

2 things.. 1.) I feel a custom-fitted trailer is necessary..I have a bunk -style; I don't know how you'd "fit" one with rollers. My guys,(Integrity trailers,Nunica, Michigan,) took my Gulfstream and custom-built my trailer to the hull. 2.) As CJBROWN said, if your backing the trailer too...
