    5" Makes a Big Difference

I knew no one could leave the 5" comment alone for too long! To be serious, you were lucky you didn't, have an accident with the boat in the original position. Low tongue weight is a great way to create trailer sway. Trailer sway at highway speeds without electric brakes to correct the...

225 ox66 alternate o2 sensor success... so far

I know what you mean. With the idle screw backed out and the linkage disconnected, some of the plates were still slightly opened. My dad didn't believe me till he saw it himself.

225 ox66 alternate o2 sensor success... so far

Yes I did take the linkage off to set the tps. I actually reset all of the throttle plates. Believe it or not, they were not set correctly from the factory. Each plate was very slightly opened.

225 ox66 alternate o2 sensor success... so far

Is this in the Yamaha service manual? I have read about this on other forums, but have not been able to find anything in print regarding this statement. I can't find anything on this in my SELOC and I have practically read half of it! I would be surprised that the default fuel map (without an...

225 ox66 alternate o2 sensor success... so far

Tuck, Some might regard it as reckless, but I did not test voltage at high rpm. There are only so many ways to make an o2 sensor like ours. I'm not worried about it. We ran 20 miles at 4200. Flawless operation. You have read posts from others doing this. Not a single one has had an issue. As...

225 ox66 alternate o2 sensor success... so far

NTK 21006 The old sensor passed the flame test. It also read between .5 and .6 volts when the engine was warm. It did not however increase voltage when I placed my finger over the #1 cylinder throttle plate bleed hole.

225 ox66 alternate o2 sensor success... so far

Issue: rich running engine Diagnosis: possibly o2 sensor, but it[i] almost[i] passed most of the Yamaha service manual checks. Result: being hesitant to try a $300 part that might not take care of the issue, we searched for alternatives. A $42 NTK o2 sensor of almost identical design has greatly...

Cleaning Spark Plugs or Replacing with New?

Hotjax, A couple things to consider: 1) I hear what you are saying. One can accumulate a lot of dollars worth of "almost" perfect plugs over the years. 2) Your plugs should stay clean if your engine is running properly. 3) Fogging could make them a little ugly. Take your oily plugs and clean...

    Marlin Hull Value

I 2nd seasick. A wise man with a good eye for detail might have found himself a deal of a lifetime, but you MUST have the stones to walk away if evidence says to. Good luck!

Found this crack today on transom

If you want to see if you have a serious transom issue, do this. Stick your head over the back of the boat and have someone throttle the boat up in gear. If you see more than 1/4" of flex at the top or the base of the bracket push into the the transom while climbing into plan, you need a new...

    fuel tank leak in overnighter

Leaks typically start with small pin holes from corrosion. We had the same issue on an older Overnighter. If you get creative you might be able to salvage the tank if the corrosion is isolated. We ended up replacing the tank. I want to say the cost was around $600. Shop around and you might find...

    248 voyager opinions

We have a 99 with a single 225 and Bimini. We love the layout for fishing and playing. The single is plenty of power for our set up but might not be enough for long off shore trips. Twins would be nice but we don't need them. If I was willing to pay for the cost of maintaining twins, I would go...

    2005 Marlin Salvage

I'm curious to see if anyone buys that boat. I've had involvement with boat repair less than what that boat needs. If I had the time to repair it, I'm not sure I would take it if it was given to me. You reasonably can't get a boat that beat up to look great again... good at best. Add 2...

    QUESTIONS--Towing a 208 w- a Grand Cherokee

If you plan to do this regularly, you are asking for trouble. If you don't expect to drive 70 and maintain consistent speed over any hills you will likely be ok as long as your tongue weight is appropriate. Make sure your tranny isn't constantly shifting to maintain speed. If it is, kiss it...

WA, CC or DC for family/fishing use?

IMO I think it is a little crazy to own a CC anywhere but the south. As seasick mentioned, you will get wet and the water is going to be cold for many months you want to fish. The WA works for the criteria we have (similar to yours), but you have already stated your frustration with the...

225 OX66 Service issues with local Grady dealer in Ohio

No I did not use a DVA. My service manual had no mention of it. Also Andy at SIMS thought my results were typical. I think it was out of adjustment, but not bad.

What's a DVA? You mean a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter? I used the Yamaha test harness and my DVOM. My tongue isn't calibrated to read that voltage... yet!

225 OX66 Service issues with local Grady dealer in Ohio

Tucker, Have you ever checked your TPS voltage per the shop manual? Here is what I got: I ran the TPS functional test per my book. Engine off, ignition on. Throttle closed the tps gave me ~.63 volts. WOT it made only 3.96. According to the book, the range is .48-5.25 volts. Is my TPS bad...

225 OX66 Service issues with local Grady dealer in Ohio

Tuck, I'm not trying to get free advice from the guy, I'm trying to save myself from having to drag this boat several hours several times... not to mention wasting money. I can't tell you how many times I've been stumped on cars and taken them to the "pros" only to have them replace good parts...
