Where to start looking for used Seafarer 228 ?

I just checked. For a Grady hardtop from a Grady dealer, about $10,000 installed w rod holders, lights, etc. Price includes full enclosure, but it has to be locally made. Grady won't sell after-market enclosure. They say that if they're not fitting it, then they're not sure I would be happy with...

Trimming the motors or use the trim tabs?

I have been taught to use the trim tabs to get up on plane a bit easier and faster. From there, use the tabs as needed to get the bow up when its calm and down only to the extent needed when in a chop or to level the boat side-to-side. Then trim the engine to where your prop is level, i.e. not...

    Hello to all!

Jim: I'm sure others will have some good suggestions. I didn't want to pass up the opportunity to welcome another Journey owner - so welcome aboard! Rob

    Fuel - Yamaha 250hp

I'm sure it does not work that way. Like a car, putting in higher octane than needed does no harm but it does no good, either. Using a fuel with a higher octane lets an engine run at a higher compression ratio without having problems with auto-ignition (knock). Power is limited by the...

    Fuel - Yamaha 250hp

I have been forced to put in 87 octane once while on a trip and found no ill affects and felt no loss of power. But like Chris said, I would not make a habit of it. It may do no harm, but for me, not worth the chance. Requiring 87 octane isn't a selling point, so I presume Yamaha makes it a...

    Adding oil to Trim Tabs

Van: I can tell you how mine works and yours is likely similar. The pump and reservoir are located in an underberth storage area just forward of the cabin bulkhead, starboard side. There is a small filler cap on top of the pump housing. As I recall, I had to remove the smoke-colored plastic...

    Water spots on windows-------Any ideas??

Ditto on the Absorber - that is what I use. Holds up well, too. Rob

Recovering the 208 Single-Handedly at the Dock

Very do-able. I had a 208 for 10 years and did what gary describes. I would walk the boat up the trailer as far as I could with a bow and stern line in hand. Then drop the stern and keep the bow line in hand as you walk to the winch and grab the cable hook. It means getting your feet wet unless...

    Water spots on windows-------Any ideas??

And once you get the glass clean again, chamois (sp?) it dry after every tap water wash down. I chamois the stainless too and it seems to make a difference over time. Rob

    Factory Tour

Bob: I had an opportunity to ask Grady's VP of manufacturing that same question a few weeks ago. He indicated that Grady evaluates every 'new' technology out there. Nothing, in his statements, holds up better than properly sealed wood. Rob

Performance Numbers From GW web site

One would certainly think so. But it could be the difference between how the boats are loaded. Posted below are Yamaha's numbers from their website. Note that the sailfish gets much more speed and better mpg than the marlin at the same 4,000 rpm. The yanaha tests give you much more info...

Newbie with new (to me) Grady.

Congratulations on the Sailfish! That is a very nice boat. I'm sure others will chime in about their experiences in the same situation - and that will be very valuable - but don't hesitate to call the factory as well. Rob

    LISTING

My 258 also lists slightly to port when accelerating up onto plane. I'm told that it is the torque of the F250. My dealer was going to have me try out some different props, but then they just moved the batteries to starboard (they both are mounted to port from the factory) and that all but...

    Newbie/Intro/258 questions

MyGal: I went with a Garmin 4208 mounted inside the radio box, pushed toward the port side. Fits perfectly. This doesn't leave enough room for a radio, but does give dry storage for wallets, keys cameras, etc. Since you have the hardtop, I imagine your VHF will go up there. I mounted a...

    Newbie/Intro/258 questions

MyGal: No, I don't think I have ever noticed anthing like that. I can look closely and see some minor undulations, but not like what I think you describe. If there are no spider cracks anywhere in the area, it is probably not significant. Still, I would call Grady and ask them. I believe they...

    Newbie/Intro/258 questions

My Gal: We're very happy with our 258. I think twin 150's will give you good performance and you'll be happy with it. We have 767 hours on the boat, so ask away with any other specific questions. I fish our 258 by myself quite a bit. It is reasonably easy to handle by yourself. A good cross...

washing an OB motor; cowling off

Zebco: The newer motors which have 02 sensors should not be sprayed with WD-40. Hopefully, the newer motors also collect less salt under the cowling. Personally, I just wipe it down with a damp sponge on occassion. Rob
