    99 Seafarer 228 - water in fuel

Take a quart Mason jar and put fuel in it from your source. Let it sit and see if water is on the bottom of your jar. If yes, you know how it got in.. if no, then either it was a bad slug of fuel or it is on your boat some place. Check gas cap per seasick.

    new to great grady

Welcome Aboard! Congrats . It's a very capable machine to go out in the deep blue. I own a 228 and that boat has taken me to the Bahamas a few times. The Dry Tortugas and places in-between. We regularly fish out of Port Canaveral down to Stuart and out of Port Canaveral we tend to chase...

    Tow Vehicle

Y'all know 3/4 of towing is not pulling the boat , but stopping it. My Tundra is rated for 11,000 pounds . I would to a 265 but here is the rub. I would definitely have electric over hydraulic brakes on the bad boy for sure. Regardless of your tow vehicle insist in that kind of brake system .

Now we are gonna be set

The ditch bag is an absolute worse case scenario event. Think about it. If you develop a leak on a nice day and don't catch it, but then you do and the boat is riding low, maybe electrical systems start to fail . Deploy the epirb and call for help on the radio. If you have a single engine...

New arm rest pads from Pompanette?

Mine are bit dirty as well. I am going to try to remove them from my seats and soak them in bleach for a few days. Problem is they will turn black again. That material is horrible from which they are made.

    228 Baitwell Aerator Addition

Are these fish freshwater or saltwater? I ask because of you are catching freshwater species , you can use an aerator either a "aquarium style pump" with an air stone or you can use an impeller style one that runs on 12 volt clamps to your battery. The latter will be better because it really...

    EPIRB?

About 10 years ago when those NFL players died fishing in the Gulf I wanted to know why they died. I called the Coast Guard Station abd spoke to a Lt there and he said they cleared their anchor to the stern and seas got bad. He told me had they had a PLB or EPIRB, that they would all have...

    EPIRB?

I might upgrade to what you bought next year. I have an ACR PLB. I have never used it. Hopefully never will. That equipment just gets better and more affordable as the years pass.

    Axle repaired!

Three years ago I spent maybe $1,400 on stainless Kodiak brakes and such. Every season running to Florida down I-95 I would face some kind of trailer failure. I got quite good at being a roadside mechanic. After I put on the new brakes, rotors, load range D tires , bearing and such I didn't...

    Axle repaired!

I admire your tenacity here Russ. I just don't have the patience for what you have endured over the year on this boat. I have been fixing a lot on my 228 these past few weekends and have gotten frustrated replacing fuel fill lines and vent hoses. It was a bigger getting the hydraulic lines...

    Help

I am not a structural engineer but I have played one in my mind before. It seems to me it's cracked bottom coat over the years. There does not appear to be a crack going north of the paint. Paints get old , get brittle and crack especially if there is some flexing, heating and cooling. Until...

    Another Battery Question

The battery may be good in that the plates are not dropped and there is no internal short. The problem with smart chargers is that they actually have a charge range say 8 or 9 volts to 14 volts. When the voltage drops out of the lower end the smart chargers sometimes are to darn smart and...

    209 escape repower

Congrats. New motor equals new boat! It's 2020 and all those motors are fine. You will be happy.

    On a good note...

My youngest made it to Life as a Boy Scout. When he got to be a Junior life took over. However, they went to Pamalico Sea Base twice. They took the Boat US safe boating course. I would suggest your kids take it if they are in their teens. You mentioned your VHF radio not being able to...

Tips for Replacing Rear Bilge Pump in GW Islander

Where is the live well on that boat ? If it's in the stern , my bet is if you remove it , you will have great access to bilge pump. I could be wrong. Good luck. Also, it goes without saying, don't go offshore without having this replacement done.

1988 seafarer faucet pump not working

Are you sure the pump is in the forward area? I don't have any idea on where they put the water pump and tank in an 88. My pump is in the stern and the shower is connected to it there with a Tee going forward to the sink. A lot has changed in 32 years.

    looking for a cushion 2004 Fisherman 222

My advice is to take the other one and use it as a template to have a new one made. Then reupholster the other one to match the new one.

    Repairing/Reupholstering my bolsters

Good job. I have a number of boat projects this spring and I just didn't have time nor the energy to redo some upholstery work on my boat. I am impressed when you guys do this kind of stuff. I am replacing my deck drains and scupper hoses this weekend and getting my transducer connected to my...

    F250 Overheating Issue & Question

I was going to suggest the above. The pee stream is an indicator of the water pump working. It's not necessarily an indicator of the thermostat being open or closed.
