    powder coating

I spoke to a GW dealer at the local boat show a few weeks back and asked him about the durability of the powder coating on GWs. He told me that GQ does not use powder coating.I'm not 100% sure, but I thought he said it was a type of paint which made it easier to repair if it got chipped.

    good bottom paint

Not sure what the manufacturer instructions say but mine had oil based on it and I just applied over after just the normal prep of power wash, and light scraping where needed. Have not had an issue in over 5 years.

    good bottom paint

I have been using Pettit Hydro Coat the last 5 years and have been very happy with. It is a water based paint, has less fumes and is easy to apply. Clean up is fast and easy. Unfortunately the price is in-line with most other bottom paint. Some say they do a full coat every year and just touch...

    Repower coming my way

Did you go with the electronic digital 4.2 F250? I am in the process of repowering my Sailfish with twin 250 and I decided to keep my current controls and gauges and do the 4.2 f250 with mechanical shifter.

    250 Yamaha on a 208. Too much?

As long as the boat is a 2007 or newer you should be fine. The 208 before 207 were only rated for a max hp of 230. 207 was the first year for a 250 max hp. good luck

    Restoring helm chairs

The arm discoloration happens on all the helm chairs from that era. They do sell a replacement cover that just snaps on. They look great but they are made of rubber and they tend to grab tee shirts and clothing when you a squeezing by in the cockpit. They are not cheap either I think I paid over...

Love my Marlin, so 'Sell' me on getting a 330!

New F250s are closer to 60K installed if you are going with electronic controls. There is a mechanical control option introduced in 2016 available for around 50K installed. Good Luck with your choice

Got the call Yamaha F225 owners dread

The dealer told me that if corrosion went to the head we are talking a 20K repair which would probably mean time for new engines. They did not say if that was welding or new power head. They have scheduled the repair for mid winter so I have to wait in suspense to get the final verdict on how...

    shrink rap or not

There are a few boats in my marina that stay in the water all year and they are not covered and they don't seem to incur any damage. I cover mine every year with shrink and when I take the cover off it looks just like when put it way. Besides keeping it clean It aslo keeps liquids from rain and...

Got the call Yamaha F225 owners dread

\ I believe it was 2003-2004 F225 and F250. If the Gufstream you are looking at is in those years I would ask if the exhaust corrosion has been taken care. if anything it is a good negotiating point. Good luck

Got the call Yamaha F225 owners dread

wbdenamur - Did you find your corrosion on a routine inspection or did you have a mechanical issue that surfaced the issue. I am wondering if the corrosion on the powerhead had any noticeable symptoms or it was just discovered as they took the engine apart?

    375 Freedom Issue / Question

My thoughts exactly about GW service as I have always found GW to be over the top service oriented. Thought I read somewhere that the Freedom 375 is a 650K boat and you would expect that the package would be perfect. Always two sides to a story too.

    375 Freedom Issue / Question

The issue was the boat steering. It was impossible to keep the boat on a straight track. Lots of drifting. The dealer could not explain it thus calling GW.

    375 Freedom Issue / Question

A friend of friend recently bought a new 2016 375 Freedom and he was not happy with the way the boat handled. The dealer had Grady White come out to look at the boat and their suggestion/fix was to add 150 pounds of lead inside the hull. The owner was not happy and wanted a new boat which GW...

    Bilge pump

lot depends on the style of pump you have. If you have a pump that is driven by a float arm you can just lift the float to see if the pump is working. If it does not work then it could be the pump, the float or the wiring. If you pump does not have a float switch you could add water and check to...

New Member with ?? on Gulfstreams or similar

You would feel very comfortable in the Gulfstream. The wide beam and full stern with bracket make it a very stable and sea worthy boat. it feels and handles like a much bigger boat. I tested my 2004 in some crazy water in Buzzards Bay, Cape Cod and never felt unsafe. Good Luck!
