    Open Water Running

Trimming the bow down on a GW leverages the forward deep v portion of he hull. I find it can help soften the ride in some chop. There are trade offs though, fuel consumption, more spray. Per the previous reply, best to experiment in various sea condition with the engines and tabs to figure what...

Locking the discharge valve for the head

I put a zip lock through the seacock handle and around the pipe that goes to the thru hull. It actually does not lock it but everytime I have been checked they note the discharge was locked. Nobody has tried to open it, they just assume it is locked when they see the zip tie :). I use a pump out...

    280 marlin

You did not mention the year of the Marlin. I would check with a GW dealer of Grady to check if the stern can handle the torque of the 4 strokes. Some of the older hulls were not designed for the torque and weight of the newer 4 strokes.

    282 Sailfish Pumpout ?

Friend just bought same boat as mine, 2004 282, and it does not have a head pump out seacock. Has anyone ever heard of this set up. I thought it was a standard setup on all 282s.

New Rochelle to Cape Cod Trip

Sharkbait - great advice, Do you mind me asking how much it cost you to trailer the boat from Tom's River to RI. My brother in-law is getting quotes from 1,200 to 3,200 for a transport from New Rochelle to New Seabury on Cape Cod. It is probably about the same distance or a bit less mileage than...

New Rochelle to Cape Cod Trip

Thanks guys appreciate the input. My biggest concern is taking a new boat for a 100+ mile trip up the coast. Guess it is a good way to find the bugs :) :) - It has been surveyed and boat checked out. Sounds like the sound acts a lot like Buzzards Bay in west winds

New Rochelle to Cape Cod Trip

Hi guy, brother in-law just bought a 2004 Sailfish right on the CT/NY border. This is the same boat as mine except with different electronics. The boat will be at a Marina in New Seabury on Cape Cod. He has invited me to join him when he bring the boat up to the cape running up the shore. I...

How low should a 228 sit in the water?

What kind of engine do you have. I have seen Gulfstreams with twin 150's that are very low in the stern

2002 Grady White Marlin Head System

My boat is a 2004 Sailfish and the head uses salt water brought in via a sea cock. There are two seacocks for the head on the Sailfish, one for water used to flush and one for discharge from the macerator. Both are accessible through an access whole in the floor.

Groco pump out / tank level switch

My macerator pump stopped working suddenly yesterday. I thought it was time for a new unit but it turned out to be the pump out switch gone bad. I looked on the Groco web site and I could only find the switch as part of a tank level monitor kit for $350. Has anyone ever found just the...

    Jabsco Electric Head

The water comes through a thru hull fitting. There are two deacons under the floor right in front of the refigerator. There is an access port in the floor for easy access. One seacock is for the water for flushing and the other one is for waste pump out. The pump out should be closed and...

    Sailfish live well pump question

Finally got the bottom of the old pump out. I used a wood chisel to create some slots in the plastic and then inserted an extra long screw driver into the slots. A vice grip on screw driver head gave me the leverage to get it turning. Thanks again for the tips.

    Sailfish live well pump question

Thanks for the tips - will try everything mentioned tomorrow. I would like to avoid removing the sea cock if at all possible . I thought it would be relatively easy to remove this pump since the threads were plastic. Don't understand why GW puts these parts 3 feet away from the user in the...

    Sailfish live well pump question

My pump died. The pump is plastic and screws into the seacock. While trying to unscrew it top of the pump broke off from the bottom piece that screws into the seacock. Tried everything but cannot get the bottom piece to unscrew from the seacock. Anyone else had this problem? Thanks in advance...

    Battery Charger

I leave the batteries on and the charger on. Refrig is always on and I keep a fan running during high humidity. Guess the fan ruuns directly from shore power and does not impact the battery. Have very good life from batteries

    ? Refrigerater

Hi, I have a 2004 Sailfish so I assume the setups are similar. Our refrigerator runs off the the batteries. When hooked to shore power they continue off the batteries, however, since the battery chargers are running there is no drain on the battery. Assume you have a charging system too.

How to clean oil out of bilge?

Ditto what a couple of posters have said - my bilge was really grimy and I poured in bilge cleaner, shut of the bilge and added some fresh water - took the boat out for the day and when I came home hit the bilges I was amazed - it looks like I crawled through the bilge with a tooth brush...

    282 fuel tanks?

I run mine on an alternating basis due tot the size difference of the tanks. Mine has a 70 and a 150 Gallon Tanks. Makes it difficult to run them both down at the same time. Not a big deal but something to think about
