    trim tab/sacrificial anode

Doc, the as annode touches the lower unit and that connection is unpainted right? Electrolysis occurs with dissimilar metals. So you got the bolt, the magnesium alloy of the lower unit (Yamaha) and the zinc. I am confused as to your post. Are you saying the annode function is really just...

    trim tab/sacrificial anode

I have lost my tab twice and I am confused here. It seems to me putting a dab of loctite on it is preferable and not antiseize stuff. Zinc is way softer than stainless and from my experience vibration and such just rattles that thing off. Also its purpose as a sacraficial annode against...

    Rear Bimini Advice

Jonah, I don't want sound crass or something but by definition here, you will need a custom product. I suppose a place like West Marine might have an off the shelf product that meets your specifications? I think you will need to take your boat to a canvas shop to have it done. One piece of info...

Need help from 330 & Marlin owners

I have a similar set up on my 228. I don't have the Garmin heading sensor for the radar. It seems to me adding a heading sensor will provide safety with collision avoidance and I think going all Garmin would help assure compatibility with the AP to the system.

Seakeeper, would you want one installed?

That's funny...I don't spend time on my boat wondering how to make it like a fixed pier or jetty. If I ran a high end charter on a 45 Express maybe I install this and then market the crap out of my business that my charter boat does indeed behave like a fixed pier or jetty. Reduces...

    Battery Charger

I think what Doc is saying a discharged battery is like a static load where the charger experiences a peak load that slowly is reduced as the battery charges. It is "predictable" where a computer controlled charger can deal with it. A fridge on electrical power cycles on and off. This...

    RTIC coolers

I know it is not a Grady topic per SE, but have any of you purchased an RTIC cooler? If so what are the pros and cons compared to a Yeti? I have been seeing these advertised on my Facebook feed. Thanks.

    New Guy

Congrats on the boat purchase. For those of us who pop in time to time, can you tell us what model Enough Already is? I don't always remember who owns what boat? Lol.

Thru hull hoses when to replace

Thanks for all your input. I would think hoses under pressure would not last as long as drain hoses but then again, hoses under pressure should be designed to handle said pressure.

Thru hull hoses when to replace

Greetings Gradymates: I bought my 228 new in 2009. I keep her up and all and I wonder when I need to replace the 9 through hull hoses on the boat? I see the rear scupper hoses regularly. There are minor cracks in the exterior of those on the stress points like in places the hose bends. The...

Trailer Issue, not enough tongue weight

A couple years ago we bought a Venture from Seales in C-town. Crazy, we essentially have the same boat , well the 228 is a tad heavier . the Venture I bought is longer than yours and because we have steep ramps here in the mountains I have a cow catcher thingy on my trailer to help prevent the...

    Any Seafarer owners in OBX?

Welcome to the world of pleasure boating. I would think everything you know about being a captain of a ship would apply but on a much much smaller scale. Some things you need to get use to though. Unlike a ship that hangs in Port, you get the pleasure of the boat ramp. The amount of liquor...

1987 228 Seafarer - which motor would you choose?

Is the optimax a fuel injected motor? I truly don't know. If they are carburated then go with the Johnson. I had 150 Ocean Runner on my 192. It developed a stalling issue after it warmed up. Had it in the shop a lot trying to solve it. Had all sorts of things replaced . I recall the OMC guy...

    grady 180

Congrats on the new boat! I love that new boat smell. Wax it with collinites wax. Don't know if you have kids or not, if you do boat bean bags like from SeaRyder are a plus. I have always thought having a sharks mouth like A P40 would be cool on the bow of the boat or multicolor flames about...

No repower for me this year....

Hey Y'all: I had plans to repower this season and it ain't going to happen. I own some vacation rental property here in the Smokies and voila a house we built back in 2007-08 roof was installed incorrectly. We had a blustery winter storm and it blew shingles off. Called Nationwide and they...

    Cockpit LED lights

I don't know the OEM part number, but I do know a way to get your project finished. If you want under the gunwale mounted lights, perhaps consider going to an auto parts store and get an 12 to 18 inch strip of LED lights? They are sealed and some are rated to be water proof. The way I looked...

    F250 Possible sale

Gi Guys: I am thinking of repowering my 228 that has a perfectly good 3.3 liter F250 with a little over 850 hours ( with half in freshwater) and it has been immaculately maintained. I have my reasons for wanting the 4.2 liter 250 even though my 250 is in fine shape. I called mid carolina...

    4 blade props on 208

I am running a 4 blade prop on my seafarer. I noticed better fuel economy at cruise. Better time to plane, lower planning speeds and better turning control with less cavitation in tight turns when pulling water toys. I also notice better performance in following seas of 3 or 4 feet over the 3...

    Tow Vehicle Recommendations

you can tow that boat pretty much with any of those vehicles. Towing is easy. Stopping is the hard part. I dont have any data on any of those SUVs. I know this because i tow long distances yearly that the longer the wheel base the better the tow vehicle. The bigger the brakes the safer the tow...
