    Yamaha 250 four stroke issue

Ok, so fairly local and not from northeast where I had read some had more corrosion up that way than down here. Hopefully the mechanic can figure out the cause of the failure.

    Yamaha Corrosion F250

Man, this is really scary...what year motors did Yamaha begin to use the newer parts to resolve the corrosion? Does the new seal/shaft kit remedy the groove issue or is this yet another wear issue to worry about over time? Been looking at some used boats and feel the concern on the range of 4...

    Control Mold/Mildew

Like HMBJack and MagicBill, I am using a Dehumidifier. I drilled a hole in the water container at bottom and pushed in an aquarium silicone hose and ran to sink. Never have to worry about it filling up. It works great. I also have a small fan for air movement, mostly to force it into the under...

Was this a members boat? What Happened?

I have used silicone for last 2 years, but continued to get the seals broken to allow water in my bracket. I resealed this year with 4200 and no issue so far. I think that in my case, my cover plates are the starboard and not a pop out or screw in plate, so 4200 bonds much better with the...

    Anchor Swivel issues

Ha, you should consider yourself lucky...They just had to go and build a new one not more than 4 miles from my house! I have no excuse now not to stop by frequently and get in trouble when I carry bags into the house! :jaw

    Anchor Swivel issues

Sure, this might look like a jery rig at best, but I never notice it now and it blends in anyway. Just letting you all know this really is a fix for this problem after my frustrations, and felt yours as well wanted everyone to know this is was a very effective solution rather than changing...

    Anchor Swivel issues

Just to add more results now that I have had more anchor time..... Week before last, anchored in 3-5' seas....almost too rough to go up front! Ended up with a knot in the line when letting it out and had to get the pliers to get the knot out to retrieve, but she held anchor for several hours...

Was this a members boat? What Happened?

onoahimahi, yes it was a Rule Heavy Duty switch. Got it replaced under warranty from WM so good to go. I hope they are not going to start failing like this. If one more goes, I will look to replace all 3 on board with another brand. I have had great success over the 30 years of boating with the...

Was this a members boat? What Happened?

Yeah, when I heard the piercing sound, I immediatly knew what it was so dropped to floor on knees and poked head in the aft bilge to see the issue! We had a 4" Thursday afternoon rain in one afternoon just prior to be getting to boat on Friday night. I think lots of the water came in due to...

    92 Sailfish 254 sportbridge

Based upon the hose routings from the head in my model, same as yours....it is quite a job if doing for first time. Some areas I can see where hoses go, but can't see or get to where they are secured, especially the high parts I think where the vents are, etc. You might check and see what it...

Was this a members boat? What Happened?

Used my High Water alarm 2 weeks ago when 50 miles offshore. Best thing you can install. Found that the primary float switch went bad and was not working. So turned on primary bilge at helm to pump out. Water was not yet high enough for secondary 2000gph bilge switch and pump to activate...

    282 Windlass

Didn't think of the vertical style. They are nice as have low profile. Would pull your current one and look into like Dennis says. I do know that these require maintenance yearly which I have not done yet. Something I think about greasing the gypsy or some parts of it. Will check into that...

    282 Windlass

Yes, confirmed 700FF should be sufficient. Lewmar site says it is the model for up to 31ft boats.

    Swin Platform --Fix or replace

Grady23, I have found and attached the link over to THT where I documented the core replacement for the swim platform. The problem was water getting to Balsa where bolts go through, therefore rotting out the balsa. As a temporary measure, first year with boat, I just put a large piece of...

    282 Windlass

I think I would look at the Lewmar 1000 Free Fall model for that boat. I have the 700FF and love it and no problems so far. Installed last year.

    Gas Tank Hatch Recore

Absolutely agree on that one! Epoxy was way better in many regards to smell, cleanup, tackiness and time. Polyester with chopped strand is like trying to strangle the easter bunny! Fur all over the place!

    Gas Tank Hatch Recore

I might have lied a bit here...might have been 2 layers now that I think of it. But, with my heavy butt, need to make sure it will stand up to time.

    Gas Tank Hatch Recore

I picked up the 3 gallon Epoxy kit to use for my large and small hatches. Both combined, I used approx. 2.5 gallons. I put first layer of 1708 biax on ground surface, then hot coated balsa, layed in, coated balsa, layed layer of 1708, brushed on resin, another 1708 layer/resin/1708/resin to...
