good or bad ficht evinrude motor

I put a pair of 175 FICHT's on my boat when I first re-powered from the original 200 Evinrude carbed motors...not a good experience. Quality control was spotty during the time they were made. Had a blown lower unit on one motor and blown powerhead on the other within the first couple of years...

    Another Gil Bracket Question

The Hermco bracket makes my boat sit HIGHER in the stern when docked than it used to with the OEM bracket. So much so that when water accumulates in the bilge, the FORWARD bilge pump goes off before the stern pump. When underway, the Hermco allows the boat to jump on plane faster, and the...

    adding A/C to a 1993 22' Seafarer

Didnt mean my comment to come off nasty, it's just that I TRIED over-nighting on my 25 Trophy Pro with my then 12 year old son a long time ago, and swore I'd never do THAT again. Being 6'2" and 250 lbs, it's just not comfortable at all for me... I believe my Grady is best used as a day trip...

Would love to upgrade the sound system on my 2010 Tournament

Re: Would love to upgrade the sound system on my 2010 Tourna I bought a pair of these and mounted one on each side of the radio box under my hardtop about 15 years ago. They STILL look and sound GREAT! Not cheap, but the Quality is worth the price. http://www.westmarine.com/buy/poly-plan ...

    aluminum trim

Maybe remove it and try to have it refinished at a local Plating Shop who can do Aluminum Anodizing? By the way, how many times have you had to rewire that cockpit light? I've done it twice so far over the years on my 88 Trophy Pro :) Good Luck this season and thanks for all the great posts...

Fuel tank Question. 1998 GW 272 Sailfish

On long offshore trips when I WILL be using a hundred plus gallons, I'll run the 75 gal Aux tank down first, (mounted to the rear, the main tank is closer to midships on my Trophy Pro) then start to use the 150 gal main. This helps by removing excess weight off the stern, and is the the...

    Another Gil Bracket Question

Sorry....I just saw this post otherwise I would have sent you this link sooner: http://www.hermco.com/brackets/ I had one of these installed back in 2007 and am VERY pleased with the quality of the product and the way it improved the ride and efficiency of my boat due to the flotation and deep...

Tip for Bilge Pump Float Switch Mod

The float switch is already higher than the pump intake by about an inch. The problem was the "surge" of water coming back through the hose as soon as the pump stopped. This surge was enough to activate the float switch again. This issue would happen whether the switch was mounted 1 inch, or 1...

Tip for Bilge Pump Float Switch Mod

Ever happen to you? The in line fuse for the stern bilge pump was blown and I noticed a bit of water was still left in the bilge... When I replaced the fuse, the pump came right back on and pumped out MOST of the water sitting there, then as the water level dropped the float switch shut off the...

    Battery Size Marlin 2007 300

I just replaced my 6 year old group 27's with a pair of group 31's from Sears. Same size, more power. http://www.sears.com/diehard-marine-rv- ... ockType=G1

Fuel tank Question. 1998 GW 272 Sailfish

As stated above, go with TWO new tanks! Why would you want to make your boat LESS safe?

Another one crossed off the bucket list!

Finally all the pieces fell into place and the weather and one of my Son's visits coincided for a trip to Bimini! The Finest Kind is a 1988 Trophy Pro which I've owned since 1991...."I think I'll keep her". I've had so many great times on this boat, but the Bimini trip was one of the the best...

Maybe this boat should not last this long

Looks like it was more trouble than it's worth to replace it. It's not a cosmetic issue, who will ever see it? And its not a safety issue at all if you just add a couple of wire ties to the rode a few feet above that rusted end...they will remind you to CLEAT OFF the anchor at that point...

    1990 25' Trophy pro livewell

In 28 years of running my boat I never used a stand tube in the drain...not needed at all. Just put a stopper in the bottom drain and the overflow water will go out the drain fitting mounted on the side of the well. My livewell also sloshes out a bit when the well is full and I'm running on...

    Leaking Windows

I recently resealed my leaky cabin side windows, not a hard project at all... Start by removing the black rubber trim from inside the track that runs around the outside of the window frame, which will expose the screws. On my 1988 Trophy Pro the windows are held in place by the screws passing...

    Removing Stripes From My Grady

Yep, after removing the decals the hull under the stripes will be tan colored (original Grady gelcoat color) but don't obsess over it, just wax the hull and splash the boat. By next season the stripe will be barely noticeable at all due to the Suns' bleaching it out so it matches the already...

    Removed my hull graphics.

I removed my worn and torn stripes before launch last season and although I bought replacement stripes to re-apply, I just left them off, because I like the look of my stripe-less Grady. some pics here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13464
