    Battery Advice

Although they were still holding a charge and never failed to start the motors, to be safe I recently replaced my 7 year old Energizer Group 29 batteries with new Sears Die Hard Group 31 dual purpose marine batteries. Better specs, more power in the same case size. Cost was $300 bucks for the...

    Replacing horn on 2003 228

LOL....you get it down pat after a while...I've replaced my horn 4 times over the years and the current one is on it's last legs now. You would think an item designed FOR MARINE USE would not rust away after a couple of years, no?

    Marlin Fuel Tank Management

As a general rule, it's better to keep the weight off the stern, so burn off tank closest to the stern first. (the 75 gal aux on my Trophy Pro) See my posts in the thread here for some common sense Fuel Management suggestions: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=23829

Fuel tank Question. 1998 GW 272 Sailfish

Seasick, nothing personal and no offense intended but I have to disagree with your comment that phase separation "rarely occurs". As I mentioned in my post above, the Fuel Disposal company was scheduled to pump out 10 more boats the very next day...what are the chances that all 10 boats had...

Fuel tank Question. 1998 GW 272 Sailfish

Just so you all know, this ties in with discussion above....I just helped my buddy pump out 150 gallons of BAD GAS from his main tank last night. (the aux was ok) from his 1987 Grady Trophy Pro. Cost him $450 plus tax to get it pumped out and properly disposed of. The gas went bad to due PHASE...

Yep, Brian never smiles. His Son is a lot nicer and better to deal with.

Should it trim this far down?

Really gorgeous boat, looks great without any bottom paint. Best of luck with her! One thing I noticed on your pic tho...an old Salt once told me a long time ago when I first got into boating.. "running around with your fenders hanging off the sides is like walking around with your fly open"...

Raw Water / Live Well Valve

My valve, (and I'm sure Skiffler's is the same) is located right below the passenger seat, mounted flush to the front side of the seat pedestal wall. Very easy to get to and simple to use. Just turn it so it points to "Livewell", or "Washdown", whichever you need. They DO get sticky and hard to...

Roller disappeared, damage done, and an uncaring marina

Gotcha Mike, you like to trailer and move around a bit. I used to keep my boat behind a private home in the Glimmer Glass, GREAT spot to stay at if you ever want a permanent slip. Nice folks there, protected in a storm, very close to the inlet with only the Glimmer Glass Bridge to deal...

Roller disappeared, damage done, and an uncaring marina

Was that the Manasquan River Club ramp? I used to winter store my boat there....No comment about their caring or lack of... However if you are heading outside, try Strictly Marine's ramp in Manasquan. (right by the Glimmer Glass bridge) If you want to fish the ocean its the closest ramp to the...

Should it trim this far down?

No problem at all. When running start at that fully down position to get up on plane quickly, then just trim it up a bit at a time until the props begin to cavitate. Then trim them back down a bit and you are at your sweet spot for maximum efficiency and best mileage for the sea conditions you...

good or bad ficht evinrude motor

Go to the Bank, withdraw $12,500 cash and go see the man with cash in pocket. Tell him you are interested in the boat but can't pay more than 12.5K because you are worried about the bad rep of the Ficht.... When he sees you are serious and have the cash ready for him he won't let you walk...

    GIL BRACKET DRAIN

Really...I wasn't kidding with my previous post...just tap a wine cork into the Gil Bracket drain hole. Coat it with some marine adhesive if you want to ensure it stays in. When you want to remove it if you need to drain out the bracket, just carve it out with a knife, clean up the edges of the...

trim gage stuck on three ?

Dunno about your motors, but on my ETEC's, there is a sensor under the motors (visible when you trim the motors all the way up out of the water), that looks like a little black lever connected to a circular flat spring. This trim level sensor sometimes sticks and needs a good squirt of WD40...

    Sailfish 282 2008 - bow thruster installation

A Bow Thruster on a Sailfish is just not worth the expense and trouble IMHO. Just use your twin outboards' throttles to spin the boat on it's axis and take your time when docking. If you get confused while doing that, just remember that the THROTTLE HANDLES will always tell you which way the...
