    Screw length mounting bilge pump

You can probably stretch (as I have to do) to reach the screw with a long Philips screwdriver. Bring wires up to you to do the work on and then put back in hole. A bruised rib but it will heal! If you can get on the screws swap the base out too. Should be same mounting holes. Important tip: Tie...

    Marlin window leak

Put a photo up of your window. I have an older boat - not sure they are the same as mine. I made mine fixed (can't open) with a single piece of acrylic. Took them out, replaced window, caulked, installed rubber and set window in place.

    Screw length mounting bilge pump

Did you include a picture of your pump? Grady used pumps that are still around today. Unless the previous owner swapped it. I always try to use the same pumps or floats originally installed so that I don't have a science project to adapt mounting and hoses when I replace one. Unless there is a...

Upgrade Hydraulic Trim taps or swap to electric?

The Bennett hydraulic tabs have lasted you all these years. I have them on my 25 yo boat. I would stay with them. I use the Lenco electrics on a boat 20 years ago. Nothing but trouble. Maybe on a small boat that doesn't stay in the water. For me electric and water are a bad combo. If the shaft...

Replacing transom fish box door on 03 express

I’m curious how big a market there would be for new Grady White hatches. Also what someone would pay for a new one. I have 4 hatches on my Islander that should be replaced. Quality of construction from the factory is poor. They really should be layed up new in a mold. Does anyone know what...

Garmin can't change Navigation Overlay items

The Nav Data Bar being fixed is OK. Not sure what else I would put on it anyway although there are plenty of other Nav items available. North-up on all my charts. I run my lower station 8612xsv in auto hide mode to use the space on the bottom for chart. I put my Data bar on the right for the...

Garmin can't change Navigation Overlay items

Probably always that way - I never tried to change it. I upgraded everything to v30.10 yesterday. Didn't make a difference. Garmin came back to me quickly that the Nav Data Bar is fixed and can't be changed. The Data Bar has boxes around each value. Touch the box, it highlights and you can...

Garmin can't change Navigation Overlay items

Just finished a chat with Garmin. Apparently Nav Data Bar is fixed and cannot be changed.

Garmin can't change Navigation Overlay items

No problem changing Data bar items but can't get to Nav bar items. Latest software. Tried everything. The Date Bar boxes for GPS Speed, GPS Hdg, Heading, Depth, time of Day and GPS POS can be selected and changed. The Nav Bar large box with Dist to Dest, Arrival, Off Course and Bearing...

Help with thru hull transducer placement

I don't use TheHullTruth that much but it is a resource. Good Luck is your search.

Help with thru hull transducer placement

On my hull there are flat spots on both sides of the boat for transducer mounting. Inside and out they are like fairing blocks. I don't have a picture of it and the boat is the water. They are on the outside of the port and starboard bunks around the circled area. Not all models came with them...

1996 Grady Islander Stringer rot repair

Not easy to get in there but I'll try to get pictures.

Help with thru hull transducer placement

Hard to tell from the photo but from the comments I'm assuming the small thru hull is aft of the transducer. Not sure what that thru hull does (bait well, pump out, etc) but I suppose it could be a source of turbulence (water in, water out or just closed) even if it is aft of the transducer...

Help with thru hull transducer placement

I can't tell which side of the photo is forward and aft. It looks like that transducer is mounted forward - not where I would have put it. You may be picking up hull turbulence from the bow. If you are going to relocate it try to install in aft compartment. You should be on 200 kHz frequency in...

1996 Grady Islander Stringer rot repair

Did you remove the top half of the boat back there for access? A photo would be great. I have a 1997 Islander and someday I may be back there!

Reupholstering all seats and coaming bolsters

The seats are probably Pompanette. You may be able to clean the armrests up and re-paint them.

    Hatteras Inlet

I've been in and out of both Oregon and Hatteras inlets. As MagicalBill stated be very careful with outgoing tide and incoming swell. At Oregon it seem that some days the tide goes out all day. And remember you have to come back later! Local knowledge is required. Both inlets change outside as...

Resealing of 33 Express Side Vent

I eliminated my front windows this year. Side windows are not balsa cored on my boat. Re-did them before.

Resealing of 33 Express Side Vent

Use 3M 4000 not 4200. Easier to take apart in the future and plenty of adhesive properties. The older windows have black rubber inserts that leak - not usually the frame. You can use a black silicone in the frames and re-use the rubber.

    Raymarine replacement sonar and chartplotter

Most transducers were made by Airmar. There is usually a tag on them. If you are putting off an electronics upgrade you should talk to local marine electronics installer and look on eBay. Make sure they will guarantee the unit to work and take it back if it doesn't. Old units should be fairly...
