    268 Islander: New to forum

The 270 was the transition to the four-stroke motors. The full length hull adds additional flotation. The 268's have a shortened running surface to create a "bracket" or euro transom but they are rated for less weight and HP.

    268 Islander: New to forum

Considering the 200hp Yamaha four strokes. Four cylinder 150/175/200. All the same weight - around 475 lbs each. This is what I'll do somewhere down the road. Boat is rated for 400hp.

    Replace canvas 2012 freedom 275

That's a nice cover. It will need to be custom made. Nothing off the shelf will fit properly and it will come off in a storm. Have them beef up the way it's held down. Possibly add additional rings and straps under the boat that you can use for storm events. I do my own canvas work and like the...

    Dome light upgrade

Wasn’t a switch problem. The lens and housing looked like crap. I’m working on getting another housing for a spare. I have plenty of switches from DigiKey in my spares. They also have the combo switch for red/white light selection.

    How do you remove this?

I have drilled plastic thru hulls out using a stepped drill bit. It’s destructive but the thru hulls are cheap enough and probably should be replaced anyway...

Trying to remove cockpit light panel

Unless you can find someone with first hand knowledge I would call GW Customer Service. At least see who the manufacturer is and get instructions. Also useful if you break it!

    Horn

I'm afraid you are right. The only thing the extra money bought me was a 5-year warranty. They are made by the same company with the same model numbers and private labeled. Maybe I'll paint the next replacement!

    Dome light upgrade

A little cyanoacrylate on the rubber trim and hot glue on the wires. Keep everything in place when putting back up. Otherwise they are a pain with everything moving around.

    Loran conversion to GPS

Just out of curiosity how old are these numbers/notes? GPS selective availability has been turned off since May 2000 which increased accuracy substantially (about 30’ radius). And the fact that he dove most of them this could be a gold mine of spots. But storm will move some of them around...

    Loran conversion to GPS

LORAN numbers would be a little shorter maybe something like 27282 80529 but these numbers are definitely GPS most likely DD MM.MMM. The old timers had "snag books" that they kept to prevent their nets from getting hung up. Are these numbers printed out or are you looking at pages from a...

    Loran conversion to GPS

Yes - those long numbers are normal. You need to find an old chart for the area and see what LORAN chains were used. You need the correct chains when setting up LORAN instead of GPS on Garmin. You will know that you have it correct when you see where the waypoint shows up on your plotter...

Winterize 1998 272 fresh water line

I have a garden hose hookup I spliced into the waterline with a cap on it. Make a compressor to garden hose hookup for your compressor - works on your home sprinkler system too! Bypass water heater (use garden hose fittings with quick connects to make it easy next year). Run faucets until...

Sirius XM Marine Fish Mapping Weather

Got the box home and the antenna puck in the GXM 54 box was a GMX 53. Returned the unit this morning. They did not have a GXM 54. Experiment canceled!

    Loran conversion to GPS

You can put your Garmin unit in LORAN mode, enter the numbers, switch the unit back to GPS and use the numbers. This will give you as much accuracy as you can hope for. The "snags" are useful but you will have to work the area carefully with your sonar. Once you find them mark with a new GPS...

    Winter storage

If on gravel nothing needed. If on grass I would recommend getting blocks or boards under tires. More to support and distribute the load to keep them from sinking in the mud. Make sure you pull the drain plug and raise the front end up to get water to drain. Most boats “sink” in the driveway...
