    OEM horn cover replacement

Clean it, sand it with fine grit and spray with plastic compatible paint. That stuff works fairly well and will hold up for a season or two

Salt Away or Water Displacement 40

The best advice I can give is that you should rinse with fresh water as soon a possible after exposure to corrosive waters ( salt water/ brackish water) The next trick is to try and make sure that the rinse water dries at least on the brakes and that means that after rinsing, it is beneficial...

thanks for the info. I will let you know how it goes when I get to the task:)

Use 3 of 4 existing batteries for a Trolling motor?

Separate battery pack/bank with separate charger is probably the best approach. I don't know how your boat sits right now but give some thought about weight of battery pack and location in the hull. Let us know how things turn out.

Need advice re: renewing cockpit bolsters

If you are not going to recover them, I don't see why removing them will make any difference in treatment. Get a good vinyl cleaner and a good vinyl treatment/protectant. I like the 303 products. Unfortunately, the sun and water beat up the vinyl and if the outer coating is worn off, any...

    Hydraulic steering problem

Interesting. I am going to have to try that method again. Did you just use tubing or did you get the correct quick connectors? Did you pre fill the tubing with fluid before bleeding?

Use 3 of 4 existing batteries for a Trolling motor?

Kaboom! Your current batteries share a common ground. That is used for connected 12v loads and charging. Connecting as you suggest may cause a dead short or possible the application of 24v to 12v loads.

    Hydraulic steering problem

The bleeding using the tubing connecting the two bleed fittings can be hit and miss. It may work better with two people, one at the helm and one astern. The reason is that someone has to pay close attention to the fluid level at the helm. If it drops too much in the reservoir it will suck air...

    Transom crack inside the boat

I learned that the hard way.

Grady 225 Tournament - Extending Fresh Water Shower Hose

I assume it is a Scandvik product. If so, the transom sprayers come in two different lengths, 6 feet and 10 feet so if you have a 6 foot hose, you could get a replacement hose that is 4 feet longer. Of course you need the room in the locker/bilge for the extra hose to lay down into. I don't...

    Hydraulic steering problem

Did you bleed the system following the Seastar instructions? If you bled it by yourself, you didn't follow those instructions:) The fact that the motor 'falls' over when tilted up means one of two things 1. there is air in the system or 2. you have a leak. It is also possible that the check...

    Transom crack inside the boat

If $5,000 is all you have to spend on a boat then my answer is no. If you have another $5,000 to spend on repairs ( and assuming the engine is usable) and you are willing to not be able to use the boat for an extended period then it could be a decent deal. Similar boats are asking in the 10k to...

    330 express access panels

The caps are also pretty cheap to buy new ones.

First Time Timing Belt Change F250

You shouldn't rely on the Yamaha gauges or any voltage reading from a device like a GPS mapper. They are OK for relative numbers but not for battery testing. In addition, battery voltages should be taken at the battery terminals.

Transom cap on twin engine boats replacement cost

I tries to explain that if the service shop does not have the ability to lift two motors at the same time ( i.e. has two motor hoists that can fit side by side), then they will have to derig and remove one motor at a time and store them either on 2 motor stands or laid flat on something. I...

I stand corrected:) I wasn't exactly wrong, I just gave the correct answer for the wrong boat!

    replacing gas tanks

I have used Atlantic Coastal Welding in NJ for skeg repairs. They did a very nice job. They do seem to do a lot of tank fabrication based on the pile of new tanks stacked in their lot:)

    replacing gas tanks

FYI, the deck on my 2001 208 has no panel to remove. If you want to replace the tank, you have to cut the deck. I am not sure what years have a panel and I wonder why mine doesn't. My tank is poly and perhaps the engineers figured that it would never have to be replaced:)

    Disconnecting radar

How many conductors were there in the white cable? Depending on the model of radar, the signals and power could come directly off of the head unit. Just to make sure we are talking about the same parts, by saying head unit, are you referring to the display and not the antenna array?

    Disconnecting radar

This post reminds me of an episode of MASH. For those who watched that show, it was the episode about defusing a bomb that landed in the camp. In any case, I wonder why you would ask this question after you cut the wires and not before?
