    Sharks!!

How's this one for ya - using my Seafarer as a yardstick we observed, up close, a 16 foot Great White. Stayed with it for 30 minutes. Shot 36 pictures off my Minolta 35mm then a dozen or so on my digital camera. August 2006 in 90 feet of water while rock fishing 2.06 miles off the beach - San...

New member Seafarer to Gulfstream info

In reflection - I meant no disrespect in my reply above. As to your question - either the Gulfstream or Journey would be a step up relative to the Seafarer. Maybe let your wife and daughter choose - either one is a dream boat. Agreeably - you will pay more purchase price and fuel costs with...

New member Seafarer to Gulfstream info

"The wife and daughter like boating but not enough to go out on any day with waves over 18-24 inches." This is sooo funny. If I had 24 INCHES of wave activity everytime I go out I'd think I died and went to Heaven! I feel very lucky if we have 6 FEET of swell for my 228G. We were out a...

When to do PM on the Thermostats / Water Pump

The answer here "depends" on : can you afford to overheat and be disabled where you do your boating. For example, you can follow the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" schedule if you boat on a lake or inland waterway where you have cell phone coverage 100% of the time and - worst case - you'll...

    wish list

Assuming you already have a EPIRB with integrated GPS ( I carry 2), then I'd swing for the Hard Top 1st then save up for the tabs. Can't imagine using my boat without all of these items. The sounder is also a given. Yikes! You know what BOAT stands for right? Break Out Another Thousand...

    Ideas for making a table?

Hey John, I use one of those really big 150 quart white igloo coolers as a "sorting table". Also, at this time of year (in prep for crabbing), I disconnect the feed line to the live well and connect a 8 foot clear hose to it looping it up and over the starboard stern side rod holders (near...

How to cover 228g Hard Top for winter ??

Mine is custom made from sunbrella. Not cheap but it's the closest thing to indoor storage. I have no regrets paying what I did.

How to cover 228g Hard Top for winter ??

I have a full cover and love it. We don't winterise here in California and I find I use my cover anytime I'm not planning to use the boat in a two week or more time frame. Takes ~10 minutes to put on or take off. No big deal given the protection I get from UV, rain and bird droppings.

Condensation on the underside of the deck over fuel tank

I have a full cover on my boat. After the wash down and the cover is on her, I typically open all of the inspection ports to let everything breath. This, I have found, eliminates any kind of moisture trapped in the fule tank compartment. Only take a couple minutes to remove or replace.

    Is 250 HP enough?

No. Not enough unless you like to fish in displacement mode.

Anyone add shorepower to 226/228 or such.. How did it go ??

I installed mine exactly as Bokat mentioned above. Works great.

    Seafarer 228/Outriggers?

Yes. I have Taco telescoping outriggers on my 228 with hard top. The fully adjustable bases are called Grand Slams as I recall. They are mouted toward the back of my hardtop, of course, outside of the aluminum frame. I'd say they're maybe 2 feet from the training edge of the hard top -...

    which is better

Neither. I use PRI-G (+ Ring Free). And I concur with the above to not over treat. I now "under treat" since I'm buring more gas this time of year.

    washdown pump

Thank-you for the above suggestion. Makes perfect sense. I'll certainly try that. I keep my boat on a lift so I'll know the fresh is pushing the salt out. Thanks,

    washdown pump

Most of these pumps seem to crap out after 3 years of use. The less you use it - the more likely they seem to fail. For the salt water pumps (live well and wash down) I wish there was a fitting or something to flush the thing with a garden hose (& fresh water). Any of you guys do this...

    Starting/Battery Problems

Yes, things like this have happened to me (not on my GW however). But I would strongly suggest you take it to a professional and have them fix it right. The electrical system (wires, connections, gauges, engine components) must all be 100% perfect - especially on a single engine boat. This...

    Adventure or Seafarer

When I was shopping, I ordered a brand new 208. Then a month later, before delivery, I upgraded to the 228. Best decision I ever made. Cheaper to have done it then then to buy a 208 and sell her only to buy another boat (228). Now into our third season, the 228 is a terrific boat. I suggest...

Kicker Motor Installation Which side is best?

Other way around. A single engine right hand prop (clockwise rotation) will LIFT the Starboard side when powered up. My T8 kicker is on the Starboard side of my Seafarer (boat rides level). Good luck...

    home made live well

If you had a Bayliner - do the garbage can thing. But since this is a GW, why not simply install a Kodiak Bait Tank and plumb the feed and drain over the transom? You could keep it portable such that you remove it when not in use (via a few phillips screws). Or, perhaps you can convert one of...

Ring Free AND a fuel stabilizer?

I use PRI-G (a stabilizer) + Ring Free (a non-stabilizer) ALL the time. During tuna season when I burn alot of gas fast, I skip the PRI-G since the fuel won't be in my tank for long (less than 2-4 weeks). I agree 100% with the above comments - cheap insurance to use both religiously.
