    Which one? 232Gulfstream -vs- BW23Conquest -vs- Shamrock246

On boats of this size, I'd stay away from inboards since you get all that extra space for fuel tanks and fish boxes with the outboard powered boats - plus reduced fire hazard (unless it's a diesel). The 232 is a terrific boat but may require extra towing permits and need to avoid certain...

Crabbing / Crab Pots / Trout Line on Grady

Seafarer is a great boat to pull pots from. I installed an Electradyne on mine. Might be overkill but I love it as it allows me to pull 10 pots in the time it used to take to pull 5. Good Luck,

    Adventurer vs Seafairer

I looked at a 208 and loved it. Brought the wife and we ordered one following a down payment. Was going to take 4 mos. to build and deliver to me here in San Francisco. Then, a month after we ordered the 208, on a lark, we "looked at" a loaded 228 on the dealer's lot. Needless to say, we...

    226 Seafarer 2006

I personally have never observed a front mounted EZ Steer (or similar connecting rod) on a 226 or 228. The EZ steer mounted on the back gives it more arch or leverage (I think). Agreeably it looks a little weird but when properly mounted, they work great. I keep mine off unless I plan to...

    226 Seafarer 2006

You actually CAN attach the EZ Steer rod on the fly. With the boat dead in the water (i.e. not moving...), simply raise both both motors. Stradle the V6 and attach the rod. The, while holding the other end, stradle the kicker and attach it. Takes some practice but it can be done without...

    Raleigh Boat Show

Very good thread. As mentioned above, I agree with GW Customer Service. Frankly, it's THE reason why GW is so darn good. Their boats aren't funadamentally that much better than the rest, but you can count on them for spare parts and issues to be resolved during the boat's entire lifespan...

    changing fuel filter

Here's what I do - I carry a pint of Sea Foam with me on the boat. When I replace the Fuel Filter, I fill it with the 16 oz. of Sea Foam. Then prime it with the bulb and run the thing at idel for 10 minutes. If you're changing the F. Filter as part of your maintenance routine, then it is also...

    Hours on F225's?

491 perfect hours on my F225 (behind a 228). Here's highlights of my maintenance program: I change the water pump + zincs in even years and thermostats and spark plugs in odd years. Oil changed every 50 hours with oil filter changes every other oil change (~100 hrs.). Annually change the 10...

need advice for potential kicker motor on Seafarer 228G

On my 228, I use a High Thrust Yamaha T8 long shaft with electric start and power trim. It's mounted on the same mount described above - very strong and looks great as it's color coded to match GW's bone white. Pushes me at 3-5 knots at WOT. Will troll all day at 3 knots. So agreeably it's...

    Accuracy of Yamaha FMS?

I concur 100% with the above response. Fuel Mgmt. (specifically GPH and total Gallons consumed) is very accurate on my Seafarer with a F225. I average about 2nm per gallon depending on sea conditions and weight on board. Sometimes 2.3 nmpg, sometimes 1.85nmpg. Good luck.

    problem fueling 2008 Gulfstream

You'll have no problem with a siphon and a long hose. Good luck. The 232 is a great boat and you have the perfect power set-up. Cheers,

    All New Electronics Package ?

I salute you - you're helping our economic recovery. My two cents: Simrad for autopilot + Furuno separate units for everything else. On my 228, radar is in upper left cabinet, and my FF and ICOM VHF in the upper right. GPS and Autopilot in that cabinet in front of your compass. Works...

    Grady Sizing help

FYI - my 228 from Bow Sprit to the back of the engine cowl is close to 27 feet. I'm in a 30 foot slip and I fill it up pretty good.

half moon bay reef claims another grady

Why fishing in 12 foot seas? >> Last week-end for rock fishing in California. My weather head said NFW.

half moon bay reef claims another grady

Interesting. If it is known that they left the slip at 7:30am, then it would suggest they were coming in when they capsized (some 2.5 to 3 hours later). No crab hoist (or broken mount) was found on the boat. Maybe they tried for rockfish (last weekend for this) as they planned to catch some...

    Sharks!!

You'll love this 52 second clip - taken in the past week out at the Farallon Islands (30 miles west of San Francisco). A Great White feeding on an elephant seal. Kind of graphic... Background music is kinda cool too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2EREP4MBV0

    F225 engine block zincs

I would do the internal zinc on the Yamaha V6 engines before any other. Yes you can buy them individually (they don't sell them as sets as I recall). I think they are something like $18 each (ouch) - but those little buggers are what keep your engine block healthy. When in doubt, swap 'em...

    F225 engine block zincs

I changed all my zincs after ~350 hours in the salt. The ones that need them most were the ones you can't see - the internal zincs next to the spark plugs. They were about 50% while the rest were ~70% (boat not stored in water). I'll change them routinely now every two years when I swap out...

    Sharks!!

They go where the food goes. Great Whites eat seals and sea lions which breath air... Wish I could post my 35mm photos - they are much better. Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

    Sharks!!

Okay - as stated - my best photos are on 35mm prints. Here are a couple from my digital camera. Note the scale - the boat in the background where you see the dorsal fin and the tip of the tail fin of this ~16 foot GW Shark. As you know, a GW will enjoy EATING any Mako, Hammerhead or big blue...
