Anyone change to a 4 blade S.S. prop?

I have the same rig as you (2006 228 with a F225 + same prop: 17 pitch SW series II). I also have a T8 on the transom which adds about 130 lbs. weight. After two seasons with this set-up, while okay, I wanted to use my trim tabs less. The answer for me was a Permatrim. Boat operates vastly...

How often does everyone replace their batteries?

I have the Blue Seas Automatic Charging Relay (ACR) set-up which isolates the starting battery from the house battery if either battery drops below 12.5 volts (I think). I also use a Guest three stage smart trickle charger which is only unplugged when the boat leaves the dock. Two to three...

    A kicker for a 226 Seafarer

Kicker on a 228 I have a 2005 228 with F225 and a T8 25" shaft Yamaha. I have it mounted on the Starboard side. This is because, before installing it, my boat naturally leaned to port while on plane - not much but it was definitely there. I think this was because of the the clockwise...

Hard top mounts//What are they for? Pics attached

Looks to me like a cannister life raft frame. Not advised since the ~75 lbs. could weaken or break the frame of the hard top.

Auto Pilot location for 22-8 Seafarer

I had professionals install my Simrad AP-16 in my 228. They put the compass way forward inside the starboard side cabin storage compartment. And I am careful not to store anything metal on that side (like a spare anchor chain - which I keep in my port side compartment). The computer is on...

    Robalo vs. Grady White

Both are good boats. For the purposes you describe (non-ocean, not much fishing), I'd go cheap. Just make sure your engine is top notch. Of course the Grady is better but it comes at a cost. The choice, ultimately, is yours. If you get the Robalo - might you have second thoughts after the...

    226 New to GW family

This post started out as a "foam" question. When doing a minor repair in my 228G's bilge, I returned the live well and chopped off a small piece of the insulating foam sprayed on the live well. This is the same foam that is sprayed inside the whole boat in various places. So I took this...

    Grady v Parker 23 ft

Man - you guys said it right. I agree with all of you. The Parker 23 with the bracket and F250 is a great choice. But I think it falls BETWEEN the bracketed Seafaraer 228G and the Gulfstream. In comparison, with a bracketed single engine, it's probably closer to the Seafarer than the...

    HIGH BILGE WATER ALARM

I added one on my boat (2006 228G) and love it. It informs me when I have 3-4 inches of water sloshing around down there. The automatic float bilge pumps are great but a high water alarm makes it better IMHO.

    Autopilot on a 222 Fisherman

I concur 100% with JF Magana (besides - he's only a few slips aways from me here in lovely Half Moon Bay). JF Magana has invested in Furuno's pilot as I recall - a top of the line, commercial grade system. I have a Simrad AP-16. We both have 228G's. I am very satisfied with my AP-16...

    WHEN IS YOUR SPLASH DAY?

I hope to get out tomorrow, Dec. 23rd to check my 9 dungeness crab pots. Was out today in a nice 5 foot swell - real comfortable. But we only came home with ten crab hence my desire to check 24 hours after fresh bait in 210 feet of water. Merry Christmas to all!

    Maintaining new engines

Captain Kaos - Thanks. I think I understand your set-up now. I'll have to try that - anything to make the flush easier is a winner in my book. To your question, I of course do not run the engine when flushing. I tilt my F225 about 30 degrees, attach the hose and I typically use salt away...

    Maintaining new engines

Capt. Khaos, I don't understand how you can use a quick connect on your F250 for flushing. Can you clarify? I ask because, when in use, there is coolant water flow through the flush fitting. Only way to get a quick connect on it is to make some sort of Tee (as I describe above). But...

    future grady models...40 ft express

Unless gasoline prices come down, I do not see how GW can justify the tooling costs. Seems to me, the boating industry will be downsizing just as cars and trucks in interest of fuel economy. Who needs a 40 foot or even 30 foot CC anyway? Makes zero sense to me...

    Maintaining new engines

Hoever - that quick connect flusher is for two strokes - yes? To install something like that on a four stroke - you need some kind of garden hose Tee fitting. I have an F225 and anyone with a F200, F225 or F250 knows what I'm talking about here. When connecting or re-attaching the flush...

Whats the biggest seas you've been in?

I agree completely. I fished out of Manasquan for many years as a deckhand on Bob Bogan's Party Boat "Gambler" and the lightning is by far the worst. You never know at what instant you might get "whacked" and be dead before you hit the deck. The good news here is it will be over quite quick...

Whats the biggest seas you've been in?

Last year, November 1st, Opening Day of crab season near San Francisco. 16 foot swell at 16 seconds, wind 25 gusting to 35. Like an idiot, I went out thinking it couldn't be THAT big. Went to retrieve my crab pots and pulled only one of my 8. After that, I crawled back to the harbor (Half...
