265 express air conditioner who has one?

Installed a Mermaid Marine Air 6,500-BTU reverse cycle unit many years ago. Still works well. Runs when on shore power, or when the Honda EU2000i is powering up the boat. Don't waste your time reading or thinking about DC units. JMHO, but the wattage calculations justify that opinion. Same...

    Electronics for a 2003 270

Congrats on the Islander 270. A great boat.

    Battery Size?

We have four batteries. Two starting batteries, with switches, so either or both can start either engine. Two deep-cycle batteries in parallel for the house bank. The auxiliary charging leads from both engines are connected to the house bank. OEM three-bank Charles Charger keeps all three...

    radar or satellite receiver?

This^^^^ We have both and use both. But radar gets the higher priority.

    27 Sailfish Autopilot

The S1000 may work for you, or it may not, as your Sailfish is much more boat than the single engine 23'-25' models that the tests are done on. I can say with certainty that the SImrad AP-24 model will meet all your needs, and the virtual feedback is great. Does cost more, but well worth it...

Twin 225 OX66 Steering Woes, 272 Sailfish, UPDATE FIXED!

Re: Twin 225 OX66 Steering Woes, With Photos! 272 Sailfish If your set both of the trim zincs to centerline, you can get the boat up on plane in calm water and detach the tie-bar. The engines will take a natural position when running that way, and you can then reattach the tie-bar so it holds...

    Looking at Islanders

Had ours since new. Put 465hrs on the original single 250hp OX66, and now over 1400hrs on the twins. Thousands of miles. Great boat.

    canyon trip for Grady 265

The 2004 GW catalog notes the fuel capacity of the 265 at 250 gallons. How much did you burn an hour while trolling - 3 or 4 gallons? That's 24-32 gallons while trolling, so about 78-86 while running. For a 120-mile round trip, that's about 1.4 to 1.54 mpg. Seems darn close to what HMBJack...

    2016 GW Freedom 275

Congratulations on the new Grady. Good hull design. We ran 160nm yesterday, out to the Norfolk Canyon and back. Brian

    Winch issues ....

The most common cause of unsatisfactory winch performance is inadequate "fall" for the rode. This is the distance from the bottom of the windlass to the top of the stacked rode in the locker, and every windlass manufacturer says it should be a minimum of 12" for a horizontal windlass. Vertical...

How to tell if my outboard is DFI?

And the carbed models were replaced by EFI engines, with injection into the intake manifold. DFI engines came later, with injection into the cylinders. Our 2001 250HP OX66 was an EFI engine.

    Trim tab pump location

Aft end of the storage area under the starboard side of the V-berth. I think it was that way on many of the WA models for a long time. Not sure why it "seems odd". I put the A/P pump in that same area as well. Lots of room to build a platform for it, isolation mount it, and include...

    GW 263 Chase 2002

We bought our 2002 Islander 270 new with a single 250HP OX66. WOT was 30.6kts. Cruised at 22kts at 1.2nm/gal, sometimes a bit better but easy to get down to 1.0nm/gal in snotty conditions. Tested with a lot of props and best was a PowerTech OFS4 at 17" pitch. Put 465 hrs on the single in...

2004 Marlin Repower to 300 HP Successful!!!

I'm not jumping in on your G2's are better comment, just want to point out that the max horsepower of the installed engines only comes into play when you are at the peak of the HP curve. If you assume similar thermal and mechanical efficiency, then the engines are converting about the same...

    Sailfish Windlass Wiring

Sorry, but I didn't see a specific windlass mentioned. I assumed it would be something more substantial than the Horizon 400 or 500 originally installed. e.g. the Lewmar 700 or 1000 series.

    Sailfish Windlass Wiring

That's what I was referring to. Undersized for any decent windlass. You can run a heavier wire or a parallel 8awg. Undersized wire = voltage drop = more current pulled by motor = tripped breakers, or shortened motor life.

    2004 283 Release Windlass

No experience on that model. Lewmar Profish 700 is suitable, Profish 1000 may be overkill. You can see the installation I did here. http://www.greatgrady.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19442&p=119917&hilit=Windlass#p119917 Brian

Electronics: Looking to go iPad based

I love my iPad. I love my HDS-12M Gen 2 Touch and NSS8. The iPad is used on the boat to BT music to the stereo. And yes, I do have the full Navionics apps and chart package on it, but that's for use off the boat. Conversations, planning, etc. JMHO.
