    Pre-Purchase Survey

What 232Grady said. Do a 300 hour service on the engine and see what you find. You never said what model and year, that makes a huge difference. I have a 2020 boat, I believe surveying it would be a waste of money. On a 10 year old boat or older, I don't care if it was surveyed 3 months...

    WTB Adventure 208

Jim, the downsides are no trailer and no hard top. The hardtop would price $10-15K higher, similarly for a newer trailer. That said, that is a LOT of boat for $25K. If I were buying it, I'd have it surveyed, look in the bilge, etc, but if that came out well, I'd jump on this boat. My buddy...

Pulling the trigger on a pilot house on the 228

One other comment. Charlie built a little tower for my radar and tilted it forward a bit. Huge difference, I see kayakers now. Before, I couldn't see 17 foot whalers. If you don't have your radar angled down towards the bow a bit, try wedging it and see if it works better. I have the 18...

    WTB Adventure 208

Look in for sale, Gary just posted his 2021. I know that boat, it's in like new condition, has a trailer, everything is super clean. I personally think he priced it too low when a 218 is $167K.

    Esea rider bean bags

I use a West Marine beanbag on my 228 and on my friends 271 when we do long tuna runs. Super pleasant. Especially if you find one that will fit in your head, store it there and have a clean deck.

    Sold - REDUCED TO $82000 - 2021 Grady-White Adventure 208 for Sale - California

I know this boat and Gary the owner. Anyone buying this boat is getting an essentially new boat for way less than new. Gary takes care of his stuff. If I didn't have my 228, I'd be looking hard at this boat. It's tricked out very nicely.

Pulling the trigger on a pilot house on the 228

Back from the second trip with the new pilot house. 3 limits of ling cod, I got the biggest - 30 inches. Not huge but a good eating fish. Great day on the water. I realized I lied about the price, it was more like $24K, I forgot the windows. So not for everyone, probably not for most...

    Simrad not showing depth?!

To add to what Charlie said, somewhere in the menu there is a way to look at both your NMEA network and your ethernet, there are places that will let you list out the devices. You want to be sure that you are seeing all the stuff plugged in.

    Simrad not showing depth?!

NMEA2000 is 250Kbps, ethernet is 1Gbps. NMEA is a bus, so when any device is using the bus, that's the only device transmitting on the bus. Ethernet is typically switched, so you can get more than 1Gbps. Source: I'm the guy that got 100Mbps ethernet going in the industry. NMEA2000 is just a...

I couldn't agree more (duh). Grady doesn't seem that interested in colder weather boats, sadly.

Pulling the trigger on a pilot house on the 228

Nobody was up top today. That's for chasing tuna and I suspect my tired 62 year old ass will get up there before I say that is a younger person's job. Charlie Hicks did the fab and this is one of many that he has done. He has cad stuff. I pushed him on the windows (I wanted bigger), I and...

Pulling the trigger on a pilot house on the 228

Well folks, just back from a day of fishing and I could not be happier with my new pilot house. The visibility was what I wanted and that is what I got. I pushed Charlie to give me the biggest windows possible and I am so glad I did. You feel like you have a 180 degree view. It's fantastic...

VHF radio with built in recording?

I googled for a while and I came up with nothing. Probably doing it wrong. What I'm looking for is a radio that records the last few minutes of audio. Why I want it is for when someone says some numbers, like a hot tuna bite, or a distress call. I want to be able to play back the numbers so...

Pulling the trigger on a pilot house on the 228

Yes. Miguel said that the wiper motors are adjustable so I should be able to use the motors I have. Anyone know if that is true? But one way or another, there will be wipers. Ideally I'd find some where they have the magic that keeps the blade vertical and I can wipe the entire window, but if...

Pulling the trigger on a pilot house on the 228

A picture, more at http://mcvoy.com/lm/228-pilot/index.html The whole point was to get better visibility and, I think, mission accomplished.

Pulling the trigger on a pilot house on the 228

Windows are in! Pics at the url below, including some that show that I should have left more space for screws for the windows behind the box, and how close the cable run came to making the window not fit. http://mcvoy.com/lm/228-pilot/index.html Still todo: clean up the wiring, outriggers...

Hard Top vs Bimini for Freedom 235

Another vote for hardtop. I just sold mine to a buddy who had a bimini and he pointed out that he didn't trailer with the bimini on. So that meant every trip there was a half hour of putting it on at the harbor and another half hour of taking it off. He's not retired so that extra hour is a...

Pulling the trigger on a pilot house on the 228

I liked the 2 boat pics as well. That's Peter's boat, one of the guys helping me. He has a 1999 228 and the hardtop went to him. Fit perfectly. It was interesting having the boats side by side. The hulls were identical and you really couldn't see much difference even though his was 21 years...
