Pulling the trigger on a pilot house on the 228

2 rectangles for the front, like a Whaler Conquest, and then sliders on the sides. All 1/4" glass from https://wynneinc.com.

Pulling the trigger on a pilot house on the 228

Yes. JJMag is Joe, he's a friend of mine, we fish together. His pilot house is what got me thinking about it. And Gary in Santa Cruz just had his 228 converted by the same guy.

    Spreader wires?

    On a 2020 228 (but I suspect/hope model doesn't matter?), are the spreader wires blue/white black/white?

Pulling the trigger on a pilot house on the 228

Hey, no offense, but you should find someone with a 3D printer to print that for you. The windshield, as a complete package, is worth at least $4K because you can't get it any more. So I don't want to mess that up.

Pulling the trigger on a pilot house on the 228

To get rid of the bar that is right where I look when driving the boat and to able to look through glass when chasing tuna. My hardtop is sold but the windshield will go up for sale at some point soon. Someone should jump on that, a friend sold his for a pile because apparently you can't...

    Should I addTrim tabs

In my opinion, you absolutely want tabs and you don't want what Grady puts on there, the 9x12 inchers. Go look at Bennett's web site, for 9 inch deep tabs, they want an inch of width for each foot of boat length. I swapped mine out, replaced with 12x18", it made a HUGE difference to the ride...

    Engine trim with batteries off?

Nice clean bilge! I have the same brand charger, you'll be happy with Noco.

    Threads for 228 baitwell tube?

I don't know if it is the same as my 2020 228, but in my boat there two seacocks, one for the baitwell and one for the raw washdown. Mine are in those two compartments on either side of the baitwell. I believe, but am not 100% positive, the starboard side one is the baitwell and the port side...

    Threads for 228 baitwell tube?

Does anyone know what the thread is on the overflow tube that screws in the bottom of the baitwell? Is that some standard thing? I know the tube is just run of the mill PVC you can get at any hardware store (because the rounded cross on mine broke and I replaced it with a drilled out PVC cap)...

    Radar for 2023 285 Freedom

I have Garmin Fantom 18 and I have strong opinions. I fish and I didn't put autopilot on until this summer, put the radar on right away. I really wish I had done the reverse. Once you have autopilot, especially if you troll for fish, but even if you don't, once you have it you will just wonder...

    New Grady owner...

I had a carbed 150 2 stroke that I couldn't make work. The next guy figured out the fuel lines were rotting from the inside, outside looked fine. I'd think about replacing the fuel lines.

20005 228 seafarer in need of new gps and depth finder. current unit OLD, still functioning {marginally} Replacement suggestions.

I sort of went overboard but I'm happy with the setup I have. Garmin 7607 aka Yamaha CL7 (my engine has digital controls so I have no gauges, just an engine app). I really like this unit because it's a regular Garmin so when I need radar, I tend to display radar on this screen and charts on...

Canyon 336 with twin 300 performance

I fish a lot on a friend's Canyon 271 with twin 300s. That sled is fast. Average mpg is 1.6. I just went and looked, Grady powers the 336 with 2x 450 or 3x 300. So I'm guessing 2x 300 might be a little under powered.

    Ski Pylon

I'm with all the other people, use a breaker bar, that's what it was designed to do. A torque wrench, while I guess you could, is going to be no match for a breaker bar with 3 or 4 feet of pipe on it. That's a much bigger lever and that's what you want. Source: I own, and use, 3 torque...

Really simple fix for 228 dash tray

My 228 has all that space to set stuff on, the flat area over the cabin to the left of the helm. But everything slides off, right? Well not now, it doesn't. I got some weather stripping from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BZMWBY19 and put a piece across the flat spot. I was out in water...

    300 hour service question

Is this any different than any old dielectric grease?

    300 hour service question

I've decided to take on the servicing myself, it's cheaper and I think I care more about doing a careful job. When I rebuilt the water pump, the new o-rings didn't want to stay in their grooves. So I used some Lucas marine grease to help keep them there. A pilot friend said that might not be...

New Grady or Used Pursuit for First Time Boat Buyer/Owner

You're gonna need a much bigger boat or cut your passengers dramatically. My 22 foot 228 has the sticker that says you can put 10 people on it. The most I ever got out with is 4, including me. And that's not fishing, if I'm fishing I want 2-3 people total, it's just not big enough to fish...

Airlift 1000HD for us 1/2 ton truck people

Previous owner had Airlift 1000 bags put in (much lighter duty) and they broke so I went with the HD version. Trouble with those is they don't like to fold up like the light duty ones. Fought one side, with my 21 year old son for more muscle, for a few hours before we got that side done. I...

    Outriggers on a 228?

Those look very sturdy but I think overkill for my needs. There isn't a lot of call for outriggers where I fish. I'm adding them for when albacore come to Fort Bragg, I'll go up there once/year to chase them. So 99% of the time, no outriggers, then maybe 2-3 days/year, outriggers. I could...
