Stock gunnel rod holder replacement for modern 228?

I've used Scott downriggers and their crab pot puller in the stock 2020 rod holders without issue until I had a pot snagged on a net (we think, we could move whatever it was snagged on by running the boat but couldn't pull it up). I can't prove this, but given conversations I've had here, I...

Stock gunnel rod holder replacement for modern 228?

Read it. I think GW must have beefed up things because we had the crab pot puller going and two guys pulling on the rope to the point that iit was leaning the boat over and no flex at all, just bent the holder a little.

Stock gunnel rod holder replacement for modern 228?

I'm all stock and I have to say I'm impressed at how beefy stock is. But point me at a Lee, I can save the stock one I ordered as a backup and put in a heavier one for the crab pots.

Stock gunnel rod holder replacement for modern 228?

Stock gunnel rod holder replacement for modern 228?

I'm the guy who asked if the stock ones were strong enough for downriggers/puller. They definitely are and the fiberglass is strong enough to hold them. That said, I got a pot tangled in what I think is a fishing net or some wire or something, and pulled on it hard enough to bend the rod...

    Roughest Seas You’ve Endured - Seafarer 228?

I've been out in 10 foot swells, they are fine when they are 20 seconds apart. It is all about how high and how soon. I agree with everyone who says the 228 can handle more than I want to handle, it is the best 22 foot boat.

    2017 Marlin?

Thank you for this thoughtful message. I'm fine on the budget, I was scared of the stock market but when COVID happened and the market went to 22,000 I put my pile in at 24,000. I think market is somewhere around 36,000 now, I'm fine. The Marlin will be a hit but not that big of a hit...

    2017 Marlin?

I've learned how to dock my single engine boat, it took me a while but when it works, you are right, I feel like The Dude. I'd love a tutorial about how you manage your boat without the technology. Not being snarky, you know I like you, just looking for how you do things with two engines.

    Roughest Seas You’ve Endured - Seafarer 228?

I don't have the experience that you all have but I did a lot of research before buying the 228. Everything I learned agrees with you, there isn't a better 22 foot fishing boat than the 228. In. Our. Ocean. If I was in Texas or Florida, Fisherman 236 would be my boat. I hope you didn't buy...

    Roughest Seas You’ve Endured - Seafarer 228?

The 228 is a great boat, I have yet to run into someone who says they have a better 22 foot fishing boat, the 228 is perhaps the best 22 foot boat. If not the best, it's still a great boat. When conditions are right, I absolutely adore my 228. My eyes have been opened to what a bigger boat...

    Roughest Seas You’ve Endured - Seafarer 228?

That's not my understanding, 6' means 6' from trough to top. And while I could be off when I'm looking at the swells, I go out in 7@11 and there is no way those are 14 foot swells. Perhaps someone confused you because on one side a 3' swell goes up 3' and on the other side it goes down 3' but...

    Roughest Seas You’ve Endured - Seafarer 228?

I look at windy.com and I look at waves. All of my friends who boat look at wind so you are right, the wind matters as well. And for the record, 6@9 is where my son and I look at each other and we are like "we can do this, we'll be fine but this is border line not fun". I'm sort of a wimp, I...

    2017 Marlin?

So my buddy Gary loves his joystick, he has the bow thruster as well and he says you want both. He's got a 2020 Marlin. I hear you Magic, but I've only got a few years left to fish if we don't figure out my health problems (but I'm working on that, maybe, just maybe, I've found a doctor with a...

    2017 Marlin?

I don't know if my buddy Gary is here, he bought a 208 to see if he liked ocean fishing, he did, his son comes with him and likes it, that sealed the deal. He upgraded to a Marlin and he agrees with you, the joystick is a lot of help but when you need to turn the boat, the bow thruster is your...

    2017 Marlin?

She just eye rolls when I talk boats. And I was sort of joking, she is by far the most important person in my life and she knows it. But my dogs are up there and ocean fishing is up there. On a day to day basis, the dogs probably bring me the most joy, but when I need a partner, she is there...

    2017 Marlin?

Hey Mustang, that first one is the one I missed and it had the farkles I wanted (do boat people get farkles? That's left over from my motorcycle days). The 2nd one doesn't have the joystick. I'm grateful you are looking but I'm a picky bastard  The way you tell if it is digital is...

    2017 Marlin?

I'm 99% sure I'm going new. My wife is not on board but I'll get her there, she isn't about the money so much as having two boats and an RV, she wants less stuff. I might dump the RV but I'm getting the Marlin. I only have so many years left, I want that boat, gonna get it. If I remember...

    2017 Marlin?

Hey thanks, Mustang, but that is not the boat for me. My 228 has digital controls, it is fly by wire, after having that, I will never go back to a boat with gauges and that boat has gauges. What I'm looking for, and will probably buy new, is digital controls, bow thruster, joy stick, I'd like...

    2017 Marlin?

It's $320 for the hull and engines and stock stuff, by the time you add a $7.7K bow thruster $9K joystick, $3K fancy seats, $2K gelcoat, $7.5K for delivery, $5K for a custom cover that snaps to the hard top, $20K for electronics, and what not, it's under $400K but over $350K. If you want stick...

    2017 Marlin?

moot point, the boat is sold, I should have jumped on it, it was $270K nicely outfitted, new is around $400K. Ouch.
