    Roughest Seas You’ve Endured - Seafarer 228?

I'm a little confused because I'm about 1.5 years into running my 228, my first boat (that worked). Running in 6@9 is not that hard, in my experience, I have that responsive digital throttle and my hand is on the throttle 100% of the time, my eyes are on the swells 100% of the time, the ride is...

    2017 Marlin?

I'm looking to add a Marlin to my fleet (which is a 228). I found a 2017 and I'm wondering what people know about how that year was built. I've been told that my 2020 228 has no wood in it, it's all fiberglass/stainless, which is nice, no soft transom, screwed up stringers. Are the Marlins...

    Roughest Seas You’ve Endured - Seafarer 228?

I've got a 2020 228. I'm on the Pacific, northern California. 3-5 @ 12 is a glassy flat ocean in my opinion, it's rare that we see that. I will go out in 6@9 but that's about where it starts to shift from fun to work. The 228 is a pretty small boat when you are in rougher seas, she will...

    First Seafarer Question

I have no idea how the previous hull did. I have the new hull and it beats the shit out of me in the Pacific but I think it is a good hull. I didn't buy into the marketing but I've been on other boats and the seavee2 is a nice hull. It is not as forgiving as a Triumph hull but it is a 10x...

Boat envy, thinking about a new Marlin 300, have questions.

While I absolutely adore my 228, I have been going out chasing tuna in a 271 Canyon, hate the center console in our snotty Pacific but love that 9000 pound hull that wants to stay planted. 232 Gulfstream is too small, I wish they still made the 28? Sailfish but they don't, so Marlin is the...

    Garmin Training

Wow, those are poorly done. You can barely understand the guy and it's lots of words that aren't needed. I expected better (and yeah, I'm not just some opinion on the internet, I've taught grad and undergrad CS at UW-Madison and Stanford and given hundreds of technical talks). I'll look for...

    Garmin Training

OP, ask your dealer if you need steadycast. Maybe it is built into that 24" radar but I doubt it. What it is is a smarter GPS that knows which direction your boat is pointing even if you are not moving. It is also a more sensitive GPS that makes your radar work better (or something, it got...

    Garmin Training

I have an 8610, smaller version of what you have. There is a lot to learn in there. Here's the stuff I use all the time: Charts: shaded relief, it shows reefs, sand, etc. Great for fishing. Waypoints and figure out how to name the important ones (it's easy) and then find "Navigate to"...

    downrigger ball cradle?

I started with the Scotty clips that go on the ball but once I learned how to stack, I only use the clips that go on the line. Ball stays in the water, so much easier. I think the ball holders should work in a milk crate. If they don't, I'll bolt a board to the crate and screw them down to...

    downrigger ball cradle?

OK, good to know I'm not crazy. I might just go back to the milk crate on a towel idea. I'll play around, anything is better than the mental image of a 15 pound ball up in the air and crashing on my hull. Bit by bit, I'm getting my boat sorted, thanks.

    downrigger ball cradle?

Aft or forward? I was planning on putting them aft of the porta potty but that is forward from the helm and gets bounced around a bunch. Thanks for the info, I have 6 coming.

    downrigger ball cradle?

Yeah, that's the ticket, I think stick those in a milk crate, towel under it, and I'm good to go. Thanks!

    downrigger ball cradle?

I hate to be the guy that can't google, but I searched for "plastic 2 liter soda crates" and couldn't find them. I like the idea, any suggestion on where you get these? Thanks!

    Life...

Hey Lee, I'm sort of new-ish here so I don't know you as well as the other guys do. But everything I've seen from you suggests you are a great guy, people here like you. Good luck with your next stage and I'm sure everyone would welcome a trip report. Once a Grady person, always a Grady person.

    New boat shopping

I didn't know about 4footitus either until I was going on and on about how much better a friend's 27 foot CC GW rode than my 22 foot. If you want to come home fast in the slop, bigger is absolutely better. I have to pick my days. Good luck in your search and if you can afford it, stick with...

    downrigger ball cradle?

I have 2 or 3 12 pound balls and 2 15 pound balls that I use for salmon fishing. They currently live in the cuddy, aft of the porta potty. I spread a towel there and put them on top of that so there is less of a chance they will beat up the boat. That's better than nothing, but I feel like I...

    Downrigger placement

I have two brand new z-wings that I haven't used because I guy I trusted said no to them, use balls. We're in the Monterey Bay, maybe that makes a difference. I was going to use them for salmon. If anyone wants them, 1/2 of retail plus postage and they are yours.

Custom rocket launchers for the hardtop?

Pics are at http://mcvoy.com/lm/boat I *love* the job that Glen did, it's perfect. If you need something like this, talk to Glen, he's GWPW on here, he is a site sponsor, all around good dude. I could not be happier with the job he did.

    Downrigger placement

I'd ask Grady. I have a 2020 228, the rod holders have worked great for me. People here with earlier boats seemed to think you'd want to upgrade the holders to something beefier, not needed on my boat. I had hard mounts on my previous boat, I like the rod holder answer personally.
