Trailer guide poles or bunks ?

I have had both, and agree with Holokai on this one. Bunks if you have to deal with side winds and current. Helps me load much better than the poles.

    Kicker on 228??

Hey Ky, My Honda 9.9 Hight Thrust shaft is also 25". I think it is perfect. Good luck closing your deal, these 9.9 kickers are gas sippers and quiet.

My boat is at that age

JRyan, I installed a washdown/livewell pump on my '87 228 last summer. Cut out holes in my hull. Can't tell you how far off centerline my hole was, but you should measure with your boat on the roller trailer to confirm. The biggest concern for me was keeping transducer interference to a...

    Grady white 228g soft spot

Wow this has turned into quite a thread. What I would add to what has already been discussed is telling Jacktropp99 I have an older hull than yours. Every hull at your age probably has soft spots on the deck hatches unless the boat sits in covered storage. I had to remove my engine bracket as...

    Grady white 228g soft spot

On my repair I used same approach as Willi-C. I used West Systems 105 epoxy and 206 hardener. Fiberglass mat was Evercoat. One layer under the plywood, 2 layers on top. Can still remember those fumes during the curing process on a hot summer day. :(

    Grady white 228g soft spot

Fabric whetted down on top of the plywood. Picked it up at my local West Marine. Yes, you can router down to 1/2" then it will be flush. It is really nice having a solid deck under your feet!! Good luck with it , not a hard project

    Grady white 228g soft spot

One single piece is far more likely to warp over time. Small pieces will not. Also, you would be limiting yourself to 1/2" ply in that case. I liked using the 3/4" in the center section for more rigidity (is that really a word LOL).

    Grady white 228g soft spot

That's what I did on both of my 228 hatches a few years back. Marine grade plywood cut up into sections then glassed over. Don't forget to seal the screws, that is the culprit for water getting into the wood. 3/4" was in the center of my pic, and 1/2" on the perimeter so it sits flush with the...

    Leaving home for moorage

Left my fisrt boat (Arima) in the SF Bay for 4 months w/o bottom paint. It was a bloody mess covered with barnacles. Got them off with a lot of scrapping. Good luck on this, Lee

    A couple questions about a 228 Seafarer...

I'll throw my hat in the ring LOL. I have a Honda 200, use it in high altitude lakes. After I changed out the prop a few years ago I am happy with the performance. My understanding of the difference between the Honda 200 vs 225 is the mid-range torque. My hole shot is quick. Top speed is 36mph...
