    A couple questions about a 228 Seafarer...

I think the context matters. I've got the v2 hull and a 2020 Yamaha 250 and it struggles in lumpy conditions that we have here on the Pacific (Santa Cruz, CA). 114 gallons of gas, 10 gallons of fresh water, gear and two adults on board. I'd hate a 200, I don't think it would be safe on snotty...

Any chance anyone has the templates for a modern 228? I want to install seadek.

Easier on my feet, the deck is getting dinged every time someone drops a sinker, looks nice, cleans up well, will out last my ability to go out. I'm not pushing it on anyone else, you do whatever works for you. We aren't all on our boats for the same reason. Pretty sure Magicalbill has a...

She looks great. What did it cost to have it detailed?

Mine is this year and it doesn't look as good as yours. Holy smokes, you must polish that thing every day. Super nice boat!

    A couple questions about a 228 Seafarer...

I think you dodged a bullet on that one. If you want to test out a modern (sort of, see below) 228, when the COVID thing is handled, I'd be happy to take you out. On modern, I'm looking at putting seadek in my 228, talked to Grady and that deck is unchanged, they say, since 2006. Don't fix...

    Question on Gimbal Mounts

Maybe I was unclear, I already have the gimbal mounts and used them in my previous boat. I was all set to switch over to the bolt on mounts until I went and looked and they look plenty strong to me. Checked it out with Grady and they say they use them in their company boats. If the rod holder...

    Question on Gimbal Mounts

I get that you are be careful but you do understand that I talked to Grady White and they use the gimbal mounts in their company boats and have had no problems, yes? I put far more sideways force on the rod holder than a downrigger or pot ever would and it didn't budge. I was on board with...

    Question on Gimbal Mounts

I asked Grady White about this and they said this: We believe using the gimbal mount should not cause a problem. We have utilized gimbal mounted downriggers (not Scotty's) on some of our company boats without issues. We haven't used the pot puller so I can't say that this...

    Question on Gimbal Mounts

I was coming back to this, looking to order the mounts. Went out to the boat and looked at my rod holders. I think you guys saying that they aren't strong enough, they are pop riveted, that must be on older boats, right? Mine is a 2020 and my rod holders are beefy and held in with 3 counter...

    A couple questions about a 228 Seafarer...

As usual, MagicalBill is spot on. If I were running my 228 on a lake, pretty flat, I think a 200 is possibly OK. If I were running in the Pacific, in our lumpy conditions, well I am doing that, 250 is OK, 300 would give you a better hole shot. So Bill is giving you good advice. You need to...

    A couple questions about a 228 Seafarer...

I repropped with a 4 blade from Ken at propgods, didn't really help my hole shot. I'm new, have no idea what I'm doing, so maybe I got the wrong prop. I sort of wonder if Ken knows that hull because he asked me if the prop helped. My dealer wanted me to go smaller for some reason that I don't...

    A couple questions about a 228 Seafarer...

I've got a 4 stroke 250hp on my 228. It's enough but there are conditions where it struggles a little to get on plane. If I did it all over again, I'd do 300, not for the top MPH, for the hole shot. I'm pretty sure I would be less than thrilled with a 200hp.

I Was a Little Bit Offended Today (Again)

I think everywhere in the US limits you to 8 feet. In California, at least, you can get a permit for stuff that is wider. My 228 is 8 feet so I don't know the details. If Alan Tani is on here, he's wider than 8 feet, he would know.

Any chance anyone has the templates for a modern 228? I want to install seadek.

Yeah, I have a request a quote to the local installer but I wouldn't be surprised if he is backed up. Everything boat seems to be backed up. I'll call the main office on Monday. And signature is so spot on. Is what it is, I love my boat.

Did you find that on their website? I went there and was surprised they didn't list Grady White. Maybe I was on the wrong page or something. Did you ask them or find it on the website?

Watch the end of this, she cleans up a 10 year old seadek mat. You might get more than 7 years.

    SeaDek updrade

That looks fantastic! How much, did you just buy and do the install or did you pay for the install? And do you fish in that boat? What happens when that stuff gets all bloody et al? Does it wash off well? And in terms of this sort of thing, is seadeck the best for babying your feet (I've...

Salty dogs and why I love this forum

I think you can get some info from THT, there are smart people there. Some of them pointed me at my 228. I completely agree that this place is better. I'm grateful as you know what that I get to hang here and learn. This place is the perfect intersection of big enough and still nice. Lets...
