Waiting for the shoe to drop

Hey all, this is David the pilot. I met him here and did a little to get him to get a Grady. He is good people, I'm happy to be internet friends with him, a lot like magickbill is friends with me. The Grady clan is pretty nice.

Waiting for the shoe to drop

Wow, that's, well, wow. I'm really green, I've been on the ocean for only 3 years and it is only this year that I was the guy running the boat. It's been a HUGE learning curve, fishing on someone else's boat is one thing, being responsible for the boat and passengers is a completely different...

    fair number off msrp?

In today's market, you are going to have to work. I can put you in touch with a guy that I sort of helped, he just bought a new Fisherman 236. The dealer wanted to get top dollar, he had to go get quotes from other dealers in order to get it to somewhere reasonable. I bought a 2020 228 just...

    228 transom rod holders?

That looks great, I'm also wondering what year your boat is. And wondering if you were able to do that 100% from the top or did you have to go in from underneath? Those look great for a net and a gaff. Close enough to be handy, far enough to be out of the way.

Waiting for the shoe to drop

OK, that's a little weird. Did you do some detective work and figure out I'm half Dutch? I've got wooden shoes next to my stove in the kitchen. Never wear them, they are crazy uncomfortable, but they have been following me around for decades. The last time I thought I knew what was going on...

Waiting for the shoe to drop

Two boat launch out of Moss Landing today, I was alone in my boat, my buddy had his wife, son, and dog in his boat. No drama launch, dropped 4 crab pots, he pulled 3 pots (2 really, rope broke on one so there is a pot down there somewhere), and we pulled the boats together so I could rebait and...

Dream to retire with my boat and fish....

This is a really interesting thread as I'm wrestling with where to go as well. Currently south of HMBJack in the Santa Cruz mountains. I wanted to go to New Zealand, can't get my family on board with that. Staying put is dicey, I'm in extreme fire danger that gets worse every year. To give...

Dream to retire with my boat and fish....

I've got friends in Raleigh and they say the hurricanes are miserable. Which is a bummer because I used to watch Dawson's creek back in the day and the coastline looks just fantastic. Never fished there but would like to. How do you deal with hurricanes?

    Trim Tab Indicator

I'm a n00b so salt heavily but... My indicators are tiny red LEDs. Guess who is red color blind? Me, that's who. I looked into trying to get the indicator info on a screen, people told me to just play with the tabs, told me they are slow to react so do a 1 one thousand hold and see what it...

    Towing a 1990 seafarer 228g

Hey, I'm not your mom or anything but can't you get the trailer brakes fixed? Lots of things can go wrong really fast. My tow vehicle is a 10,000 pound dually flatbed with a duramax diesel and I've been pushed around, it's not fun at all. Your tow vehicle weighs about the same as your...

    Towing a 1990 seafarer 228g

    Here is my data when I was looking at the same thing. Boat - dry weight = 3510 Motor - 250HP = 562 Fuel/water = 772 Hard top w/canvas = 225 Electronics = 50 Downriggers, balls = 85 Gear = 100 Total = 5304 You want brakes on the...

    22 seafarer

So that's such a low price, if you are handy, sure. If you aren't then I'd spend some money to have a surveyor go through it. If you have to repower with a new engine it's going to be pushing $20K. So you want the hull to be solid. Older gradys had wood in them that rots, you want to figure...

    Towing a 1990 seafarer 228g

My 228 is a 2020 so it might be different. My boat with a 114 gallon tank, gear, trailer, is right about 6500 pounds. Your truck will tow it just fine but will really struggle to stop it. It is *always* about the stopping power. I tow a 12,000 pound excavator, my duramax is fine, but I...

    A couple questions about a 228 Seafarer...

Yeah, the 250 is enough. If I were to do it all over again, I'd go 300 for a better hole shot when I'm in lumpy seas, but the 250 works. Add a little trim tab and you pop up. OP was considering 200 and unless s/he's on a lake or fairly flat water, that's maybe "ok" but not "fun". And I can...

    228 transom rod holders?

Yeah, you're right. A couple of zero degree holders is probably the ticket. Or just leave the spare stuff in the cuddy cabin. I really only need 2 rods plus a descender and a net and I've got enough for that. The hoarder in me likes it when the boat looks like a pin cushion like here:

    228 transom rod holders?

I had to look those up, seems like you could cut a hole in the transom and screw the mounts to the transom? Does that not work, do you need to get under there and bolt them down? What about mounting something like this, I'd put it centered on the transom...

    228 transom rod holders?

I've got a modern 228 and I'm wondering if it is possible to add rod holders in the transom. Anyone done that? Apologies if I've asked this before, I've thought about asking, looked and couldn't find where I did. I'm becoming a boomer. When you are 25 and open the fridge and ask "what am I...

    A couple questions about a 228 Seafarer...

I can't be the only owner willing to take you out. I bet if you got the dealer to hook you up with the owners club, one of them will have a 228, they are pretty popular. Call them and ask about that club, you might make some Grady friends.

    A couple questions about a 228 Seafarer...

Yeah, and impractical given COVID. Have you talked to Jacobsens, the local GW dealer? I'm pretty sure there is an owners club up there and the dealer is part of it. I'd start there, has to be a bunch of 228s up there, they are popular in the Pacific NW. Good luck, my offer stands but, yeah...

    Kicker motors

So that Seastar looks interesting. Some questions. I mounted my kicker on the starboard side, will this work on that side? Is there anything special required of the kicker (I have a 2020 suzuki)? Does it make it harder to steer because you are moving two motors? Thanks.
