What are your Top 3 favorite boat mods or additions you've made?

Not really in order. I should say doing a DIY motor swap to a used fourstroke but that's a no brainer and more than a 'mod'. - Similar to Skunkboat, - Reconfiguring batteries to have a dedicated house battery, moved both to port side, Added a VSR switch so I'll never run down my start battery...

    both batteries relocated to port

Nice, I did the same after I bought my boat. Added an ACR (love it) and moved both Group 24 batters to port to balance out 120 lb kicker. Did you use the Blue Sea Terminal fuses they ask for on your ACR? I've blown 2, thinking of switching to a circuit breaker. 100 amp. Good project, well worth it.

Finally a Grady White owner and finally got her back home safely...

Awesome trip report! Thanks for taking the time to post. I've had 2 boats shipped east to west but always wondered how it would be and how much it would cost to drive it myself. I paid $3500 for my 228 Seafarer in Nov. 2019 to go from Richmond Virgina to Seattle, WA. Let me tell you it was nerve...

Upgrade to hydraulic or electric steering systems

Never seen a Boomer sub but I can tell you our ferries have a prop at each end. So they don't turn around. They use the front prop as the brakes, which is the wash you see in the front. I'm pretty sure the ferry could have stopped if he wanted to but he had the right of way. Amazing how tough...

New Grady White 228 Seafarer owner with a couple of questions...

Found a pic of the old rear speakers. These couldn't handle an amp so took them out. Front 2 sets are still in there. SKAR audio replacements but the same holes in the hardtop were used... luckily. Those box speakers are really easy to mount! Not much room in the hardtop when you open the...

New Grady White 228 Seafarer owner with a couple of questions...

Congrats on the new boat, and the cross country trip. Another Grady from the East hits Seattle. Those same speakers came with my boat. They're from west marine if I remember correctly. Was in the same spot too. I replaced them with bigger 6" speaker boxes. I think those were 4". They aren't...

Upgrade to hydraulic or electric steering systems

No it won't help you in the fog. Look up what Garmin new Reactor autopiliot can do. It's not a a magic robot that can avoid obstacles. You can still hit things or be hit by things with auto pilot. In fact I'd say it's more dangerous because you don't have to pay attention to drive. My friend...

Euro Transom to a Full Closed Transom w/ Bracket

I've seen a bracket added to a euro transom on a non-grady but the transom wan't raised. Imagine a massive swim platform, that's what the owner wanted for diving. Watch the latest Florida Sportsman Dream Boat episode (youtube) the owners of this marine company are about to do it. They are...

Upgrade to hydraulic or electric steering systems

If your boat is hard to steer, you could replace the steering cable for $150ish. They need it every 10 years or so. I could steer my 20' boat with cable steering with one pinky. You didn't say there was a problem. But if autopilot is the goal then ya go hydraulic for sure.

Fiberglass delamination, top, bow pulpit and anchor hatch

It's a known issue where cosmetic chipping occurs on the hatches. I had it bad. Fixed it over the winter, with gel coat. Can't even tell it was there. Do a search on this forum, you'll find photos of the process.

How many thousands of dollars are you willing to spend on this project? It's not going to be cheap.

    Bait Table / Fillet Table

Do they have a way to mount it high over the livewell on a Seafarer 228? Find the cutting board is easy but the mounting at 40 " is the tough part it seems with off the shelf parts.

    Bait Table / Fillet Table

Thanks for posting all the great ideas above. Still trying to figure out how to do this and make it look good. Seems like I have to spend ALOT of money to do it right. Or weld aluminum.... I actually want it at a comfortable working height or it's not worth doing. My dad can weld but trying to...

Looks great. I may have to upgrade to that hatch someday. Just loving my storage too. I keep it full of important stuff that change by what kind of boat trip I'm doing. Thanks for posting.

    More prop talk Seafarer 228

I would have to disagree. I think you’re taking it personally Dennis. If you look at his question he asked for Seafarer owners with similar motors. You chimed in with a different boat and a two-stroke. if you think a two-stroke has the same torque as a four stroke and other models/brands have...

    More prop talk Seafarer 228

Harsh? Level of experience? Not sure what you mean there. i’m talking about observations of prop performance. Nothing harsh about it. Just a fact.
