1987 228 Seafarer - which motor would you choose?

If you are going to resell, pick the prettier of the 99 and the 93 Johnsons. I doubt the 25 hp difference will be very noticeable. No way would I put the Opti on there. It survived this long so it's probably OK, but it still has one of the worst reputations out there.

    1994 Explorer repower

If you are only going to hold on to it for another year or two, I would look for a used 250 OX66.

    Your Favorite Fish Recipes

Tuna or rockfish (striped bass) on my grill at home with some butter and hamburger seasoning. Other than that...none. I generally hate fish.

Help....not sure what buttons are for!

That sounds like a really complicated and possibly expensive way to accomplish the same thing as walking from one side of the boat to the other. :)

Help....not sure what buttons are for!

I bet they were for electric downriggers. Definitely not OEM.

    Stern Heavy Voyager 248

Re: Stern Heavy Freedom 248 Short of swapping the twins for a single or adding ballast to the bow, I don't think there is much you'll be able to do. It's still just a 24' boat and adding an extra 500 lbs. to the back corner (two guys and a kicker) is going to have a big impact.

244 Explorer floor drain scupper thru-hull

I bought a pair of the Attwood stainless ones for my 227 project. I'll check the part number when I get home tonight.

    Covering Adventure with Tarp

This is what I did for my 227... You have to be careful with venting a tarp to allow moisture to escape. Letting moisture out also lets wind in...and that's what kills a tarp.

1991 GW Sailfish Sitting heavy at stern in water

Does you stbd cabin window leak? Mine did on my old Sailfish and rain/splash water drip down the inside cabin wall, on to the shelf with the sink and then work it's way back/down until it got to foam between the stringers deep within the hull. When I found it there was a void between the...

Dual Battery Switch on Adventure 208

If it's a lead acid battery, don't forget to check the water level in it. Top it off if necessary and then charge it. You might be able to save it. The battery in my lawn tractor went dead a few years ago. After adding distilled water to each cell and fully charging it, it's been going...

    Scupper flap source?

Check your local hardware store. Maybe they will have some sheet rubber that you can cut to size.

replacing stringer, leaving inside skin intact?

You'll need to expose a lot more of the outer stringer in order to get it to dry in a couple of days. Allowing air to get to just the top edge may allow it to eventually dry out...but my guess is that it will take at least a year to do so. I can totally understand not wanting to take down the...

grady 232 gulfstream single 250 yamaha

Disagree. If your engine is transom mounted you want the antiventilation plate even with or slightly (1/2" or so) above the hull buttom. If bracketed, the general rule is get that plate 1" above the bottom for every 12" of setback. I ran the 200's on my bracketet Sailfish about 1-1/2" above...

Opinions on "SeaCast" Transom and Stringer Casting

The only way I would ever consider a pourable transom is if I were going to cut the inner or outer skins and remove all of the wet/rotten wood anyway. Only then could you properly prepare the skins (and refasten the one you cut) so the pourable stuff could bond sufficiently. There's nothing...
