Sounds to me like you aren't switching the manual valves to select the aux tank. The switch on the dash only changes which tank the gauge reads. Look around in the aft bilge for a pair of fuel valves.

All that thing does is distribute the load from the engine mounting bolts. It's not wide enough to be considered any sort of a transom brace.

Cutting the lip is way easier than cutting up the tank. I had to trim less than a 1/4" off of the lip in my 227 and then I could lift the tank straight up and out.
