    First engine mistake, how bad?

You know, I was thinking about it when I was starting dinner (blackened Vermillion tonight!), it can't hurt the engine. Plenty of engines go out to sea for days or weeks or months on end. Unless there is something horrible about not being in the sea water, and maybe there is, a 2 day thing...

    First engine mistake, how bad?

There are 3 ways to flush it, hose connector in the boat (for when you are in a slip), hose connector on the engine, and stick the engine in a trough. Both engines are in 50 gallon horse troughs full of fresh water, been running for the last 15-20 minutes. My dealer, who I sometimes trust and...

    First engine mistake, how bad?

Mr Idiot strikes again, sigh. The 250hp Yamaha has sat in my driveway for 48 hours without a flush. Flushing it now. It runs fine, any way to know how much damage I did? I'd ask on THT but that forum thinks laughing at newbies is a national past time, not gonna give them the satisfaction...

    Kicker on a 228.

Just to finish off this thread, I couldn't find a Tohatsu anywhere, went with a nice white (because that's all I could find) fuel injected Suzuki. I'm still dialing it in, the throttle doesn't stay throttled and I have the clamp under the tiller cranked all the way down. Need to poke at that.

    Nautical Miles/ 228 Seafarer

First of all, I love being your on-line friend. I have to look through my posts but I'm pretty sure you are the guy I gave kudos to for well thought out and pleasant replies on this forum. So refreshing when compared to places like THT. So I'm honored and I'll do my best to not let you down...

    Nautical Miles/ 228 Seafarer

If top is 1 and bottom is 4, they used 2, 2nd from the top. It's mounted flush with the bracket, no spacer. Do I need to take a square out there to see if the bracket is at 90 degrees?

    Keys for cabin?

I need to figure out why they don't work. I tried them in every lock and every lock refused to let me push them in. One lock gave a little but wouldn't let me in. This is a 6 month old boat that is trailered, they should work, right? This seems like a dealer issue.

    Nautical Miles/ 228 Seafarer

When I say in/forward I mean trim the engine as far towards the bow as it will go and that is the position where it pushes the bow down. On tabs, I've only used them to level the boat, I've not tried to push the bow down with them, the engine seems to do that well enough. I'm listening (you...

    Nautical Miles/ 228 Seafarer

So not to be Mr Idiot, but I am, how do I know how high my engine is mounted? I can go put it down and get you where it is relative to the keel if that helps. I sort of wonder if my trimmed in/forward isn't as far as your guys boats. People keep talking about stuffing the bow, I trim all the...

    Nautical Miles/ 228 Seafarer

Just came back from fishing. 3600 rpm is about 26-27mph at about 2.6mpg. The new prop is maybe better, I can stay on plane at 22, not so much below that. Full throttle with a pretty full gas tank and me and my son, we hit 45mph. Grady says 48, whatever, close enough. There has been a lot of...

Recent 228 and pressure washer OK?

Huh, pressure washer did not take most of the stains off. I'm fishing tomorrow but I'll get pics after I wash the decks when we get home. I think it might be tree sap or something like that.

What do you tow your boat with?

Yeah, it's awesome. Spending money like a crazy person has the upside everything just works (for a while). My trailer does not have bearing buddies, it's all sealed, they say get it inspected after 5 years. So no greasing them. leeccoll, those high side rails/bunks you have on your trailer...

What do you tow your boat with?

I can definitely feel when I'm trying to speed up hills but the 6.6L duramax has a lot of power. The cool thing is the surge brakes on that brand new trail with 4 stainless discs, make the boat magically "disappear" whenever I try and slow down. Such and upgrade from my previous junk trailer.

What do you tow your boat with?

Chevy 3500 flatbed, this pic is with my previous boat, but she tows the Grady just fine.

    Forward Bilge

On my 228, rain can get in via the anchor locker.

Need advice on buying a Grady

Yes, that's what I wanted. It looks like you put a tremendous amount of work into that Seafarer. Was it worth it in the end? I'm assuming you got her cheap and put sweat into it. She looks great on the water! Really hasn't changed that much, looks a lot like my 2020.

    Nautical Miles/ 228 Seafarer

I've repropped with a 4 blade prop, the 3 blade would not keep me on plane at 20-22, supposedly the 4 blade will do it. But I have to say, gas mileage aside, the boat runs fine in 4x8 if you push the bow down.

Are you guys going out on flat water? Because what you are saying works then. I'm usually 4-5' @8s, if I push the bow up I'm just smacking into the next swell over and over. I've tried and the ride goes to crap. Maybe there is some sweet spot I'm missing.
