What are you paying for marine gas in your area?

The PITA Factor is no joke, but starting last year I've taken to bringing 3 5-gal gas cans with me each time I go to the boat and trying to manage the fuel level that way. It's a waste of time, but so is the fuel dock, and this waste of time is quite a bit cheaper...

    Trolling for stripers

I might be in the minority but I run braid for everything. I find a long dropper ahead of a bunker spoon with either an 8-10oz cannonball weight or a heavy parachute jig gets the spoon down far enough. Just need to leave a long, 5-6ft leader running down to the weight and at least that long of...

    Trolling for stripers

I pull mojos, umbrellas, and spoons all the time, often solo. I never have issues getting down to ~3mph or so (SeaV2 226 with an ETEC 200HO). If conditions are sporty the bow can get blown off-course quickly at that speed, but short of getting autopilot you're going to deal with that on any boat.

    251 Coastal Explorer

Not to steer you away from GW, but is the Everglades 253 on your list? 2" more draft than the Grady 251 but an extra ~2000lbs might help with the offshore part of your use case a bit. They're said to be wet and probably a bit behind GW in fit and finish FWIW. I think others have asked the same...

    The Right Boat

Interesting background, you've come to the right place! Can't say I'll have all the answers for you, but here's a few thoughts to start the convo: - Most 1990s gradys will have some degree of susceptibility to wood rot, especially at the transom. This can be somewhat reduced by targeting those...

    Need Insurance Recommendation

I'm also in CT. Switched from Geico to Travelers last year. Even adding on the $200/yr BoatUS insurance on top of my Travelers bill (that had been included with Geico) I think I saved like 25-30%.

    A little boater humility

Same thing happened to me last season! By some divine intervention we ran out of gas not a mile inside our harbor's breakwater after getting absolutely lashed on a long, rough ride across the sound. Lesson learned, when the fuel gage barely moves for several trips the sender is shot :rolleyes...

    2001 repower

I think the counterpoint there is that if it's gonna struggle mildly to plane in chop with the 250, why stress about finding one when he can easily get a 225 to also struggle mildly... Plus don't forget about the ~125lb weight savings from the Merc 225 over the Zuke 250

    new grady

Not really sure how many people want or need all of: 28' of LOA, 19" of hull draft, 34 cushy seats, 600 hp, Optimus Prime gunwale... but I'm sure they'll sell plenty like usual

    1993 22’ tournament - speeds?

1994 226 walkaaround here. ETEC 200HO (218hp). So a bit different setup, but I'm right around 40 wide open. Boat really wants to settle in around 29-30 as has often been said about numerous Gradys. Guessing you could do a few ticks better on top end with the 225hp.

    Fuel guage

FYI- I learned the hard way this year that when fuel gauges fail, they can read full or close to full even when the tank is completely empty. Hooray for unlimited towing!

Any Experience with Catalano & Sons in CT

I used Catalano to replace all my thru-hulls last season, partially on recommendation from this forum. They were professional and quick.

How shallow can GW 235 freedom go

Also keep in mind that your depthfinder will read depth from the level of the transducer, not the waterline, to the bottom (assuming there's no offset programmed). Honestly if you really wanna know accurately your best bet might be to slowly beach yourself on nice soft bottom and try to figure...

    What boat to buy????

Have you looked at the Robalo 265 at all? It's a brand that doesn't have quite the same mystique as the ones you mentioned but it has been around for decades and seems to have a strong following. That might be an interesting boat for you since you're not a huge fishing person, so you might...

    Repower for 226 - anyone running a 200 hp?

FYI it's often been said that the Suzuki 200hp is a "bigger" 200 than the Yamaha, which comes in lower within the 10% variance band allowable for outboard HP output. Not sure if there are numbers anywhere to back that up. That said, I find the boat to perform good-not-great with an ETEC 200HO...

    Grady 208 Adventure ???

Looks to me like the transom/ aft seats/ tow pole/ swim platform/ motor well area of the boat is an exact copy of the 215. The 218 is pretty much that boat with a cabin plopped where the dual consoles and forward seating would have been. All about manufacturing efficiency. This makes me a...
