    1990 Grady 228g feels slow

If you're having trouble determining speed, there are free GPS-based smartphone speedometer apps that you could try to use to get a ballpark. People here with similar boats might be able to give you a sense of whether you're in the expected range of WOT speed if you can give them a number.

Never Owned a Boat - Looking for Suggestions!

Welcome aboard. To say you've come to the right place is an understatement! I bought my first boat for myself at 27 a year ago. Settled on a 226 seafarer. Gave it an obnoxiously wordy writeup here if you're interested...

    TheHullTruth

I feel like THT can be pretty well broken down into 2 types of discussions. Some are specific and technical, like "My [engine brand] is doing [small performance issue], what could be wrong?" or "My [specific boat model] needs a [new part], what should I do?" These are generally disinteresting...

Used Grady White Shopping- 24 ' range Recommendations and Insight

At a glance that looks like a pretty clean rig. 250 is pretty common power for those I think, I'm sure it'll push it fine (not lightning quick but fine). Really comes down to how much you're willing to pay for an engine that's closing in on its 30th birthday in a few years, how much you care...

    Comparison of CE251 vs Fisherman

These boats have fairly little in common in my mind. CE is a bay and inshore fishing boat, designed to run in comparatively shallow water (16 degree deadrise & 14 inch draft). It's a center console layout which is preferred by fisherman. The 275 is a dual console built on the standard 20 degree...

Used Grady White Shopping- 24 ' range Recommendations and Insight

Twin 225 2 strokes on the Voyager? If that's true I think you can knock that one out, that's 100 HP above the rated max and undoubtedly more weight than the boat was designed for. Seems like a potential recipe for disaster you might as well avoid.

    How does beam affect ride?

I find it difficult to believe that an 8200lb walkaround wouldn't provide a dramatically better ride than a similarly shaped hull weighing less than 4000lbs. I also find it difficult to believe that a 5000lb dual console provides the most comfortable fishing platform. Count me on "team stick...

Think that's right, believe the 37 is the only one to come with trip XTOs

    1998 Grady White 226 Seafarer for sale - $18k - Not mine

Seems like a slam dunk deal at $17.9k. Still seems like a pretty smoking deal at $19.8 so the price adjustment is surprising. And yet it's been sitting there at that price for 3 weeks? Either people are really sleeping on this boat or there's something more to the story not shown in the listing...

Not That Anyone Asked: My 226 Seafarer 1-Year Review

Hi Grady Folks, I've taken a great deal of wisdom from the online community over the past year, and to pay it back I'd like to post some observations about my 226 after a full season of use. Hopefully someone who's in the used WA market finds this to be a helpful resource, whether now or down...

Can’t get a good cast surf fishing

You'll get it with practice. Hands up high like you're swinging an axe. Nice smooth tempo, feel the rod load and slingshot as you swing the bait forward. Let go with your finger, follow through with the tip pointed out to sea.

I'm sure those outriggers will get lots of use

What is the 226/228 True Length for Slip Fees?

1 season down with my 226 including fishing in varied weather conditions and runs up to 90 miles and I've scarcely even filled up the splash well, let alone taken water onto the deck. Personally I would not suggest being scared away from this design unless your intended use of the boat includes...

    Electrical Gremlin - VHF

Great success, it appears to have been either a bad fuse or bad connection to the fuse block. Thanks for all the suggestions, clearly any electrical work is new to me!

    Electrical Gremlin - VHF

Hi all, here's a new one. Tried to call out from my radio this weekend but every time I it the call button the radio display would shut off and the call would not transmit. Upon releasing the button, it would turn back on but reset to Ch. 16. My best guess is that it was experiencing a power...

    through holes

Don't know about your boat, but in my 226 there's a deck drain basically where the captain's feet would be in the helm. I believe the corresponding thru-hull is more or less where you describe.

    Sailfish 282 Repower to Single?

It's a fascinating question (and one that I have no firsthand knowledge on), but it does make make me a little nervous that you'd lose more performance than you'd think given the weight of the boat and the reduced "bite" of the single prop. Biggest concern might be responsiveness while handling...

    22 seafarer back splash gaurd

Fair points. I certainly know how easy it is to raise the engine into a locked transom, I have a lot of experience on a 23 Regulator that's set up this way. Still strikes me as an odd tradeoff to prioritize the ability to freely raise the engine over protection from waves over the stern.

    22 seafarer back splash gaurd

I was actually thinking of putting in a fixed clasp system of some kind on mine to fix it in place should a wave overtake the stern. The little rubber catches look like they'd be useless in this scenario. Never fully understood the logic in that design.
